Parent Awareness Presentation

Holmes School PTO and YWCA of Darien/Norwalk's Parent Awareness present Michelle Albright, Phd for a presentation entitled "Typical, Tolerable and Terrible: What's Really Cause for Concern Among our Children" on Thursday, May 19 from 7:00-8:30 at Holmes School.

Tweens and teens are notorious for acting without thinking, and in fact their brains aren't fully wired to connect choices and consequences. Join us for an interactive presentation where Michelle Albright, a licensed clinical psychologist, will share strategies on
  • How adolescent brains work (and how they don't)
  • How to foster resilience and responsibility among our children
  • What should (and shouldn't) be considered "typical" adolescent behavior
  • Establishing effective family rules and routines
  • Enhancing parent-child communication and relationships
  • Nurturing children's self-awareness, social awareness and decision making skills.

Got Old Batteries?

Please help the Holmes School Cub Scouts recycle household batteries. There will be a collection box by the front entrance to the school starting Monday, May 16th through Friday, May 27th. Thank you for your help in protecting our environment!

Thriving Youth

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you."
-Maya Angelou

An ability to communicate and express feelings is a strong predictor of mental health and healthy relationships. As a parent you play an important role in helping your child express what they are feeling in constructive ways. Your own ability to share your joys and struggles can set a powerful example. This week instead of just asking your child how their day was, offer something about your day as well.  Maybe something you felt good about or were grateful for or better yet something that didn't go so well and how you handled it.
