The PTO would like to thank Judi DelVecchio for bringing TheatreWorks' production of Skippy Jon Jones to our kindergarten and first graders. She even got to the school at 7:15 in the morning to help the cast and crew set up their stage! In addition, the Earth Balloon was a huge hit with our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders and would not have been possible without the hard work of Katy Ingulli! Thank you as well to the parents who took time out of their day to help guide classes through the Earth Balloon.

Building GRIT...For Students Who Tend to Quit Difficult Tasks Due to Frustration and/or Low Confidence with Todd T. Kellogg, LMFT, BCBA.
Thursday, April 28 at 7:15pm, Darien Library Community Room
Research shows that the brain changes over time when faced with challenges that require effort, making mistakes, and, ultimately, persistence. One fundamental characteristic to successful learning is Grit: stamina, passion, and a determination to continuously plug-away when experiencing difficulty. The problem that plagues many children, though, is that, instead of embracing difficulty, they shun the experience and associate challenging tasks with anxiety and stress. Others might just give up, thereby killing off the learning opportunity. It is possible to help our children learn by increasing their understanding and acceptance of Trial & Error, which is the process of how we learn a vast majority of skills over time. Todd Kellogg, LMFT, BCBA, a licensed marriage and family therapist and a board certified behavior analyst, will offer strategies for addressing these important issues. He has worked in the field of disabilities since 1994 and has established PositiveFamilyBehavior, a private practice with offices in Trumbull and Wilton. Co-sponsored by Darien Library and Darien SEPAC.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month: Practice resistance skills now with your child when they are young so they can develop the confidence and experience to resist drugs and alcohol in their high school years. This week, practice ways to say, "no." Describe situations that may make your child uncomfortable - for example, being invited to ride a bike where you do not allow your child to go, or being offered medicine or another unfamiliar substance by another child. Talk about how it felt to say "no."
