If you choose to purchase school supplies through the PTO program please follow the ordering instructions. The website is www.SuppliestoPlease.com, click on "parents login" and enter username: Holmes/password: hs2016 (case sensitive). Prices and supply lists can be found on the site. All students are required to have a homework folder. Students in grades 3-5 are required to have an assignment book. These can be purchased as part of the supply pack or separately. You can find a list of next year's school supplies here. You can also order by mailing in the order form.

Kindergarten Orientation for incoming Kindergarteners is Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8. There will be NO SCHOOL for current kindergarten students on those days.

April is here and we are gearing up for Earth Week at Holmes School. The Green Team has lots of fun activities planned for the week, starting with the return of the 2nd Annual Garbage Art Show.
Calling all Eco Artists to start creating! Up cycled masterpieces can be dropped off Thursday April 21st between 8:30 and 9 am. We will host a Gallery Opening Reception for students, families and faculty on Earth Day, Friday April 22nd from 8:30- 9am. Donuts and coffee will be served. If your child plans to submit a piece, please register their participation here by Friday, April 8th.
All art pieces will remain on display in the Common Room until Friday, April 29th. All students are encouraged to wear GREEN on Friday April 22nd and pack a waste-free lunch.

Is your Kindergartner interested in Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouts is open to all boys in grades 1 -5. Come learn all about it on Tuesday, May 10th. Our 3rd grade Cub Scouts will be hosting a carnival for your boys interested in Cub Scouts. Common Room 3:30-4:15pm.
All boys must be accompanied by an adult.

It's easy during a difficult conversation with your child to focus on how frustrated you feel as a parent. During January's "Got Resilience?" forum, Tracey Masella reminded us to step outside of ourselves and consider, "How is my child feeling?" When we can trace back our son or daughter's angst or argumentativeness to core needs for acceptance or autonomy, or an underlying fear or anxiety, we can engage in hard conversations with perspective. Darien Nature Center Spring Programs

DAC STAGE presents 'YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN', musical for all ages
The Darien Arts Center's community theatre group, DAC Stage, presents this award-winning and family-friendly musical for all ages, opening on April 22 and running weekends through May 7 at the DAC Weatherstone Studio. The delightful show is a collection of short scenes and songs based on the 'Peanuts' comic strip, originally created by Charles M. Schulz in 1967. Eight performances: April 22, 23, 29, 30 and May 6 & 7 at 8 p.m. and April 24 & May 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students. Get tickets at darienarts.org. Darien Parks & Recreation April Vacation Camp
Looking for something FUN to do over April vacation break? The Parks & Recreation Department will be offering a Future Stars Basketball and Blue Wave Kickers Soccer camp from

Darien Junior Cheerleading Registration is Open!
Registration for the Darien Junior Cheerleading League is open for all new and returning cheerleaders. Darien girls entering grades 2 through 8 in Fall 2016 can register for the Fall Season by visiting
www.DJFL.org. Registration will close on May 13, 2016. There will not be a late registration date as uniform sizing and ordering needs to be completed. Darien Junior Cheerleading is an exciting program offering an opportunity for girls to learn the skills of cheerleading while focusing on teamwork and spirit. Darien Junior Cheerleaders cheer weekly for our Darien Junior Football players and have participated on occasion at DHS Varsity football games. Register for auditions on April 11. The DAC's popular talent contest returns on June 25. The fundraising event features prizes for adults & children, and accomplished entertainment industry professionals as judges for the auditions & finals. Contestants ages 10 & over, can enter alone or as part of a group, to sing, dance, play an instrument or perform just about any other talent in the competition. Acapella groups, garage bands & dance ensembles welcome. Registration for auditions opens on April 11 at darienarts.org and remains open until May 9. How can parents strike a good balance between preparing kids for a highly competitive world, yet protect them from damaging pressure? Dr. Robert Evans, psychologist and author, sponsored by the Greens Farms Academy Parents Association, will offer concrete suggestions.

Drop It & Drive Poster ContestDrop It & Drive In Darien invites all Darien elementary school students to design a poster that promotes safer driving in our Darien community. The theme of the contest is "Let's Make Darien A Safer Community. On the Road = Off The Phone." Winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be selected from each of two categories: grades K-2 and grades 3-5. First place winners will receive $75 cash; 2nd place $50; 3rd place $25. Winning entries will be displayed at the Darien Library. Contest runs now through Monday, April 11th. Darien Boy Scouts Accepting Donations for May 1st Annual Tag Sale!
While you are doing your Spring cleaning, please consider donating your items to the Boy Scouts. Community submissions must be local, 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organizations and parent or child-related. We will not include advertisements for businesses. Submissions will run for two weeks.
The deadline for submission is Monday by 4pm; H2H is normally distributed on Wednesdays.
