It's October and that means those little orange boxes will be coming your way very soon!
Please support Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF this Halloween. This program began in 1950 as a way for kids to help kids in need of more than candy. Since then, children have gone door-to-door with their UNICEF collection boxes on Halloween, calling out "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!" They have raised more than $175 million for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF over the past 65 years. UNICEF improves the lives of children throughout the world by providing immunizations and medicine, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. For more information, please visit: http://www.unicefusa.org/trick-or-treat
So please save your spare change over the coming weeks and get ready to fill your child's Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box. Last year Holmes School families donated over $1,400 to UNICEF. Thank you for your generous support!

Have you ever had your child program your remote or perhaps show you how to use your smart phone? If so then you realize how helpful and knowledgeable our youth can be. Our youth are a valuable resource that if sought out and allowed to help, could make a significant contribution. How can we utilize our youth better and make them feel valued? Involve your children in planning family events like holiday celebrations. They can help plan the menu, cook, decorate and even plan games and activities for the younger kids. Ask your children to teach you something new whether it's a game, some new slang wordsor a computer/technology skill like accessing YouTube. It is empowering to them to be able to be able to teach an adult something they don't already know. Make sure to let them know how much you value them; it will do wonders for their self esteem! Don't we all want to feel needed?
