Direct appeal brochures have recently arrived in your mailboxes.  Please consider contributing to help with the many PTO costs that include field trips, classroom supplies and staff appreciation by donating via PayPal.  Without these funds, many of the exciting events and special days would not be able to take place.  We are appreciative of any amount that you are able to give.  Thank you in advance for your support of our children!

Lemonade Stand & Toy Drive

In support of Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Alexa Stavrianopoulos, grade 4, will be hosting her 2nd Annual Lemonade Stand & Toy Drive on Sunday, September 13th from Noon to 4:00 PM at 160 Holmes Avenue, Darien, CT.  Alexa's brother, Niko, was diagnosed last year with Neuroblastoma at the age of 3.  After 14 months of intense treatments and surgery, he was declared cancer free on August 6, 2015.  One hundred percent of the donations will go to Hope & Heroes to fund Neuroblastoma research. Our goal is to help fund research which will lead to less intense treatment of Neuroblastoma, and one day, a cure. The new toys will be donated to the Oncology Clinic at Columbia University Medical Center, where pediatric patients spend long days while getting treatment. Please come support a great cause! For more information, please visit  http://hhccf.convio.net/goto/TeamNikosFight.

Tip of the Week of 8/31:
Thriving Youth / CDSP/ Community Fund

Parent involvement means more than parent-teacher conferences and PTA meetings. Parents are the cornerstone to helping kids get a good education. Be the best educational role model you can be. Stay involved in your child's learning by creating a parent-teacher partnership, talking with your child's teachers, addressing problems constructivel
y, and attending student conferences. Know what's happening at your school and in your child's life by volunteering and learning
about the "40 Developmental Assets" which identify a set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable young people to develop into successful adults.

Watch for The Community Fund's Thriving Youth "Tips of the Week" in your e-blasts each week with important tips to help you inclu
de asset-building activities in your family life.
