EPA Job Training Grant

EDC Warren County President Ed Bartholomew has announced that the region is the recipient of a second EPA Job Training grant in the amount of $200,000(no local share is required).  The program will be administrated through EDC and City along with partnering with NYS DOL and Warren County's One Stop for unemployed and underemployed individuals from Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga County.   Only 18 grants were awarded nationally for this program.   The job training sessions will be held at Local 773 Plumbers and Steamfitters Job Training Center at Luzerne and Veterans Road in Queensbury.  Applications for the program will be available later in the summer.  Bartholomew recognized "the continued support and advocacy by Senator Charles Schumer in endorsing our funding application to EPA."

EDC Active in Regional Workforce Program Updates

EDC Vice President John Wheatley participated in a recent executive committee meeting of the Saratoga Warren Washington Workforce Development Board (WDB) formerly known as the Workforce Investment Board (WIB). The change in name reflects new federal legislation known as WIOA of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act which was enacted in 2014 replacing the prior WIA - Workforce Investment Act of 1998 which expired. The SWW WDB is finalizing bylaw changes resulting in the newly revised federal guidelines. For a basic overview of the basic differences in WIOA and WIA click here.
