Timely Tips July 2013:
Slick, Quick Browser E-mail Trick

*Works in IE, Chrome, and Firefox (and probably others too)

July 2013
Greetings!

Hope you don't mind if I get right to the point this month -- I've had a big slate of client work pop up this month (not complaining!!!), so I myself am a bit short on time.  Thus, I want to give you a quick and slick browser trick courtesy of Timely Tips Reader Tom Seng:
Here's Your Slick, Quick E-mail Browser Trick
This is ALWAYS the place to look for your Timely Tip!

This is a pretty old-school version of Timely Tips.  I'm going to keep this super short and sweet.

Open your preferred browser (I tested this on IE, Firefox, and Chrome, and it worked on all three [although IE gave me a security warning pop up]):

Now, in the top URL bar (where you type the address for the page you would like to go), simply type in the following:

mailto:

If using an e-mail tool like Outlook as your primary e-mail software tool on your PC, it will open up a new e-mail in your Outlook.

That is slick.  Thanks Tom!!

If you know any other super easy browser commands for the URL bar, please send them on.  I love stuff like this.

Summer Break Coming Soon

Normally, July is a "shoulder season" month for me -- a bit slower pace and extra time with the family.  But, this year, I got blasted, which is a great problem to have.  I have some R&R scheduled after the next blast of client work coming shortly, so if I'm a bit slow getting back to e-mails and voice mails in the next week or two, my apologies (and I'm doing it on purpose.)  Think Sun, Sand, and Shandys.  ;-)

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, and look for another super handy tip next month.
And please remember to use the links below to connect "socially".

Until next month, Stay Timely!

Sincerely,

Randy Dean

Apps of the Month

Box and/or DropBox

Box and DropBox are both available on ITunes and Google Play

Seems a bit silly, but a focus on the basics is never out of style.  If you don't have your own private cloud drive that is syncing with your smart phones and/or tablets (as well as your PC/Mac), you are likely putting yourself at some professional and personal data risk.

I strongly recommend that you research both of these apps, as well as the cloud storage options provided by Apple, Google, and Microsoft, for the best solution for you to store and access your professional and/or personal data, documents, files, images, etc.

As we continue moving to a smart phone/tablet-based workplace, having cloud access to your most important files is a necessity.  I like both Box and DropBox, since (as of yet) they do not claim partial ownership of your data, especially if you have the paid versions of these apps/services.

And the storage costs are amazingly cheap.  Get a cloud drive location, and post your most important and/or most used data and files to it.  Properly password protect it to keep it secure, and do some additional research on more ways to keep your data backed up and secure.

If not, you know what will happen.  Not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

Let me know if you have other cloud drive storage choices you strongly prefer.
