HELP!!!

Greetings!

First, I'd like to give a quick shout out to all of my friends and clients in the Northeast United States -- nothing too funny about Sandy the last few days!  I hope you all survived the storm and continue to survive the aftermath -- sending my best thoughts to you in this very tough time.  Now, let's get to the normal Timely Tips issue, which I had planned before the storm hit:

Yes, I used this picture before, but I still think it's funny, so I'll use it again.  I'm in a bit of a treating mood with Halloween here, plus, I'm busy with a client event followed by kids' school and family Halloween events, so I'm going to get right to this months Timely Tips -- how about some articles you can share AND EVEN publish???

Let's get to it:
No Tricks -- Just Treats!  Articles and Tip Sheets to Share!
This is ALWAYS the place to look for your Timely Tip!

I've started a new habit of turning some of my favorite Timely Tips into easily shareable articles and tip sheets.  I'd like to offer you three of my favorite articles plus two handy Outlook tip sheets that you can not only use for yourself, but also share with others (let's get some viral "treating" going on this Halloween!)

Please notice that with the first three articles, I am giving you the link to both Word docs AND PDFs -- that way, if you have an interest in using them in one of your group's upcoming newsletters, e-news, or magazines, YOU CAN!  (And the Word.doc versions may make editing easier. Note the little blurb near the bottom that gives you the right to republish and even edit AS LONG AS you include my little info blurb at the end of each article when you use it.)  And yes, you can forward these on to the writers/editors of your favorite professional group/association or company/organization employee newsletter if you think they'd have an interest in any of these articles for their members/staff.

How Cool is This???
"Hi Randy,

Thought I'd let you know that collectively, our group reduced their inbox size by about 50,000 in the last week!  Your presentation got the wheels turning, and I see people getting real creative with their tasking and quick steps...

Thanks again - I'm certain you will hear from us again."

Down South in Early December
Just wanted to let all of you know that I'll be in Alabama for the Alabama Council of Association Executives in early December.  If any of you would like to take advantage of this trip to have me visit your location/company/group/association for a program at reduced rates in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, or Florida, send me an e-mail at randy@randalldean.com for more details.

Your Dentist Will Love You ...

if you just remember to brush your teeth (and have your kids brush theirs) after the Halloween candy-o-thon.  (I'm hoping for some Twizzlers -- my kids don't like them, which is a big bonus for me.)

Have fun with your bonus articles and tip sheets above, and look for another Timely Tips before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Until next time, STAY SPOOKY!!!  WAH HA HA HA!!!!

Sincerely,

APPS of the Month!

The Radio App "Trifecta"

Rather than share a single app this month, I want to share three apps that basically do the same thing -- turn your smart phone or tablet into a live radio streaming device.

One of the biggest critiques that I have had with smart phones and tablets as well as many other tech bloggers is why didn't they put an AM/FM radio receiver in the device too???  It sure would be nice to play live radio through the phone/tablet speaker and/or headset!

Well, apparently a number of radio stations, networks, and app developers thought the same thing, and then created live streaming radio apps that you can download on your smart phone or tablet devices. There are three that are leading the market:
  • IHeartRadio
  • Radio.com
  • TuneInRadio
All three are available for Android and IPhone/IPad (and likely on some of the other devices too) and are free or very low cost depending on your device.

These apps are a bit different than Pandora or Spotify in that they stream the live feed from the same radio stations that are not only broadcasting in your area, but all around the other parts of the country too (and even around the world!)  This means, if you have moved away from a favorite old hometown station, maybe you could find it again!

What I've found is that you basically need to get all three apps to have the best chance of finding your favorite station(s) on at least one of them. IHeartRadio is ClearChannel's app, Radio.com is CBSRadio's, and TuneIn looks like is covers many of the same stations and more.

I actually use these apps to help save time too -- whenever I'm driving to a big city, I do a web search to find the local stations with regular traffic/weather updates.  With these apps on my phone, I can actually start listening to the traffic updates several hundred miles before I'm in actual radio range, thus allowing me the chance to route around any potential traffic snarls MUCH earlier!  Get all three and enjoy your radio streams (just remember that these apps use LOTS of bandwidth -- watch your data usage!!!)

Have fun be-bopping around!
