Governor Larry Hogan created a Regulatory Reform Commission to identify ways to make Maryland more competitive for business while continuing to protect the health, welfare and safety of all Marylanders.
Provide specific examples of your experience doing business in Maryland and/or ideas for areas of improvement with regard to the regulatory climate in Maryland.
|
Background:
The Commission members have asked businesses to provide specific examples of your experiences in any of, but not limited to, the following sectors:
- Transportation
- Environment and Land Use
- Health Care
- Business Occupations and Licensing
- Banking and Financial Services
- Capital Formation
- Insurance
- Labor and Employment
- Agriculture
- Tourism
At the September 17 regional meeting held in College Park, businesses commented on licensing requirements, applications, duplication of forms, process for submitting reports. Many offered suggestions on leveraging technology (online forms), creating synergies (using federal forms in lieu of state forms), making fees in line with market rates (13% interest on underpayments for tax obligations is too high).
Commission members stressed the need for specific examples of regulations, processes, interactions with state agencies that are cumbersome, bureaucratic or otherwise impede a business's ability to do its work efficiently and effectively.

The Regulatory Reform Commission is gathering input through mid October. A report is due to the Governor by December 1. For questions, please contact regulatory.reform@maryland.gov. |
