MCCC is a 501 c 6 and advocates on behalf of a strong business community in Montgomery County and Maryland. Below are advocacy highlights at the county, state, and federal levels. For more information about our advocacy work, visit our Advocacy Page.
|

COUNTY:
- Economic Development Reorganization - Bill 25-15: County Executive Ike Leggett has proposed creating a 501 c 3 organization to manage the County's business attraction and retention efforts. MCCC will testify in support of the general direction of improving economic development at the Public Hearing on Tuesday, June 9, 1:30 p.m. Find out more at the June Economic Development Member Exchange Meeting.
- Energy Tax: On a vote of 5-4, the County Council continued the use of the increased energy tax as a way to fund the General Fund of the budget. This tax is borne disproportionately by the business community and adds to the significant cost of doing business in Montgomery County without contributing to energy conservation measures.
Thanks to Councilmembers Nancy Floreen (At-Large), Roger Berliner (District 1), Sidney Katz (District 3) and Council President George Leventhal (At-Large) for their support of decreasing the tax to bolster economic development. For more information, visit MCCC's advocacy page. - Earned Sick and Safe Leave: The HHS Committee will be discussing Earned Sick and Safe Leave on Thursday, June 11. MCCC continues to work with the Council to address concerns of the business community. If you would like to weigh in on this topic, please contact Ilaya Hopkins.
- Transit Task Force: The County Executive has reconvened a task force that is looking at the proposed legislation to create an independent transit authority to support transit projects in the county. A public forum will be held on Wednesday, June 17. Visit the Transit Task Force website for more information.
- FY 16 Operating Budget: The FY 16 Operating Budget was passed 8-1. See the County Council budget page here.
|
|
- New Bills: Governor Hogan signed 350 bills on May 12, 2015, including bills that MCCC supported such as reorganization of DBED, customer service training, small business impact, tech transfer, and apprenticeships.
- Purple Line advocacy continues: Governor Hogan will make the decision on the Purple Line within the next two weeks. See MCCC's State of Maryland Advocacy page for more information.
