The MCCC "Voice of Business" is focused on tax reform, capital investment and the removal of obstacles to help our members succeed. This week we testified on bills in all three areas and were joined by MCCC members as well.

We add our voice to say Thank You to Senator Barbara Mikulski who announced her retirement in 2016 after decades of public service.  Senator Mikulski has been a steadfast supporter of MCCC members and programs including the 41st Annual Public Safety Awards Luncheon taking place this year on Friday, March 13.

The US Small Business Administration has proposed changes to two rules that have impacts on small businesses. The comment period is open until April 6. Visit our

SHA Permitting Reform - Support

MCCC supports a new bill this session which is an effort to streamline the SHA permit approval process sponsored by Delegate Shane Robinson (D39) and introduced by freshman Delegate David Moon (D20)HB 621 / MCCC Testimony

 

MCCC Opposes:

  • The perennial challenge of Combined Reporting, stressing that this approach is not a cure-all to revenue shortfall.  HB 663 / MCCC Testimony
  • Any attempt to repeal the Estate Tax Recoupling passed last year. HB 730 / MCCC Testimony
  • Bills introduced to roll back the gas tax which would deprive the Transportation Trust Fund of critical resources for Maryland's future transportation investment. HB 483 / MCCC Testimony

Education Budget Meetings

Montgomery County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Chief Operating Officer Andrew Zuckerman and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard  will host five public forums to provide information, and seek input, on the programs and budgets of the County's public school system and its community college.
