Recap: Veteran Institute for Procurement (VIP)

The October 2014 VIP session graduated 49 veteran-owned small businesses from 13 states and Washington D.C., including Hawaii. Since the program launched in 2009, VIP has graduated 397 veteran-owned small businesses. Click here for a recap and photos.

Election Information:
Get Out To Vote! The general election is on Tuesday, November 4. Visit the Board of Elections website for more information.
On the November ballot, voters across Maryland will face Question 1, a proposed constitutional amendment that places restrictions on the ability of the next governor and General Assembly to use transportation money to help balance the general fund. The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce supports this initiative. Click here to learn more.

At the County Level:
Bill 36-14 (Ban the Box) passed on October 28 with a vote of 9-0. The ultimate legislation was substantially altered to allow for questions into backgrounds to take place at the conclusion of the interview, rather than after a conditional offer of employment.
Bill 52-14 (introduced on October 28) would ban the use of certain pesticides in Montgomery County. A public hearing date has not been set.
There will be a Transportation and Environment public hearing on December 2 at 7:30 p.m. on three bills (53-14, 54-14, 55-14) that address taxicabs. Click here to read the press release.

In other news, The Montgomery County Council is seeking applicants for positions on the Minority Owned and Local Small Business Task Force and the Procurement Policies and Regulations Task Force. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on December 3. Click here for more information.

The final report of the Governor's P-20 Leadership Task Force on Arts Education in Maryland Schools was released last week. The Executive Summary of the report can be found on the AEMS website.
