This Week at the General Assembly: February 21, 2014 |
Even the snow doesn't stop work in Annapolis while the General Assembly is underway! At this point in the session, members of the House and Senate have submitted the majority of bills to be considered this year which total over 2,500 pieces of proposed legislation. Over 150 of those bills deal with income tax and miscellaneous taxes and close to 50 bills address economic development issues. The MCCC Advocacy Team has focused our efforts in Annapolis on legislation that impacts the business climate in the state to make Maryland more competitive. See the MCCC 2014 Legislative Agenda and priorities.
For example, a number of bills on the Corporate Income Tax were heard in the House Ways and Means Committee this week. MCCC submitted written testimony in support of lowering the corporate income tax rate in order to be more competitive with nearby jurisdictions.
To see the full list of bills for which MCCC has submitted written testimony, visit our Legislative Action Center. You can also use the Legislative Action Center to send an email to your elected officials on specific pieces of legislation of interest to you. |
Commission on the Future of Maryland (SB493)

MCCC believes that SB493 represents an important effort in addressing the need to diversify our economy. Ilaya Hopkins, VP of Public Affairs, MCCC testified along with a broad coalition of community interests in support of the establishment of a commission on Maryland's future on February 18, 2014 at the Senate Finance Committee.
