20th Anniversary Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon
Featuring Marisa Tomei as the Keynote Speaker
Thursday, October 1, 2015
Marisa Tomei, Keynote Speaker

The Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon is generally comprised of 900+ corporate sponsors, philanthropists, media, "who's who" of Dallas, table hosts, and accomplished men and women in the North Texas community.  The event raises funds to support the comprehensive programs of The Family Place and ensure that life-saving services are available women, men and children that are victims of family violence.

Marisa Tomei continues to bridge the gap between rich, dramatic performances and smart, comedic turns.  Whether working with large studios or independent houses, Marisa consistently brings her independent spirit to every project with which she is involved.  Marisa won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny.  Marisa also traveled to Ethiopia to direct a short film based on the Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book Half the Sky.  The film, which was also her directorial debut, focuses on a thirteen year old girl's struggle with the institutionalized oppression of women in Ethiopia. A Fairy Tale Moment for Michael Jenkins as 'Cinderella' Opens

By Nancy Churnin

Once upon a time, like Cinderella dreaming of the ball, a 10-year-old from north Oak Cliff yearned to see the performers at Dallas Summer Musicals.

He took the trolley to Fair Park to ride the Ferris wheel and asked the operators to stop when he was at the highest point so he could study the rehearsals in the Band Shell and figure out how the shows he loved were put together.

Michael A. Jenkins is still watching performers rehearse. But now, at 73, he's watching as president and managing director of DSM, which will mark its 75th year with a celebration on June 12.

It seems particularly fitting that the show he'll be watching starting June 9 is the national tour of the 2013 Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. That's because it's a Cinderella moment for Jenkins and DSM as producers of this show on Broadway and as investor-presenters on the national tour.
