From the Head of School
Shabbat Shalom

As we prepare for the Passover holiday, I am thrilled to share great news of our students' achievements this season:
  • Our Valedictorian was admitted to Harvard, Penn, Northwestern and UT Austin, and will be attending Harvard University in September
  • Our Salutatorian has been awarded the highest Merit Scholarship at Yeshiva University and will begin YU in the fall
  • Another top senior has been accepted to Yeshivat Har Etzion (aka "Gush") and will be traveling to Israel this summer to begin a year of intensive study
  • A top junior is a finalist in the Israel-based International Math Competition for Girls (Ulpaniada 5776), and will travel to Jerusalem in June with our Math Department Chair
  • Another top junior placed first among nearly 200 high school students in the Texas A&M Math Competition held last month in Commerce
  • A third top junior was named a finalist in the prestigious Bronfman Summer Fellowship in Israel, widely considered the top honor for Jewish teenagers around the world
  • We are also proud to boast six National Merit recognized students from our junior class, an incredible achievement given our size
My sincere thanks to our outstanding faculty and parent body for your support of our students each and every day!

With best wishes for a meaningful and uplifting Passover holiday - Chag Kasher v Sameach!

Dr. David A. Portnoy, Head of School

The father was very disappointed with his teenage son, no matter what he said to him he continued to spiral out of control. Finally, the father had no choice but to throw his child out on the streets. Unfortunately, even this drastic measure did not have the desired effect and still the child continued his troubling and sometimes dangerous behavior. Even in his son's twenties he saw no change, in fact, matters went from bad to worse. The young man now lived on the streets and spent all his hours in the bar barely pausing to catch his breath between one drunken stupor and another. Finally, the father unable to watch his son suffer, sent one of his trusted friends to seek out his wayward son and bring him back home. The friend found the son pounding home one drink after another and could barely get a cohesive word out of him. Finally, in the few brief moments of lucid consciousness, the friend was able to converse with the young man. The friend asked the young man if he was happy with his present station in life. The young man replied simply that his life was absolutely perfect, it just could not be any better. When the poor father heard the reply of his wayward son, he realized that in this state there was no possibility for a reunion. Before the son could come home, he would have to want to come home, but, how could he get his son to recognize the sorry state of his life and feel the need to come home?

After much deliberation, the father realized that he must open up his son's eyes to the possibility of a greater future; a glimpse, a passing hope, anything for the child to think that a better future could exist. Only after this ray of light, would the young man clearly see his sorry state.

AP Information
Please take a few minutes to read the following so that you and your child are familiar with the 2016 AP schedule.  Juniors and some seniors will take the regularly-scheduled test and those seniors who will have been on the March of the Living will follow the late-testing schedule.  There are no make-up tests so students who are not present the day the test is scheduled will not have the opportunity to make up a test.

Students signed up for these tests in class at the beginning of March. Your account should show a charge for each test ordered.

The list of students taking each test is posted on the counselor bulletin board outside room 907.  In addition, information about the day of testing and important information in the testing room can be found on the same bulletin board. Click here to see this information

Any student who has accommodations approved by College Board should bring a lunch to the classroom as he/she will not be able to attend the regularly-scheduled lunch.  Those students will be able to eat during the breaks provided by College Board.

The most important thing to remember is check the time each test starts.  That time means that each student should be in the testing room at that time ready to begin.  Instructions are long and arduous and take time to complete before each test.  Those who are late will not be allowed to enter the room.
Students are welcome to bring a snack for the short breaks.  Snacks will stay on the cart until break.

Late-testing AP Schedule
There are many different start times to the late-testing AP schedule this year. This is partly due to the fact that some of our students are taking more than one exam each day.  In addition, on Friday, May 20, seniors will need to practice for graduation at 4:00 p.m.  Please look closely at the late-testing AP schedule for those who will be going on the March of the Living.  Late testing begins on Wednesday, May 18 and ends on Friday, May 20.  Those students testing on Thursday morning (Calculus AB/BC) and Friday morning (Literature and Composition) will start at 7:00 a.m.  This will allow those who need to take two tests each of these days to have a brief break between the two tests.

Additional Information
Any student who has accommodations approved by College Board should bring a lunch to the classroom as he/she will not be able to attend the regularly-scheduled lunch.  Those students will be able to eat during the breaks provided by College Board.
