From the Head of School
Shabbat Shalom
Dear Yavneh Family,

Our second week back has been filled with extraordinary energy, and lots of prospective students and parents visiting our magnificent campus. Our Parent Coffee welcomed families from Akiba, Levine and many other schools, while individual student visits pair a visiting eighth grader with a Yavneh "buddy." It has been wonderful to have so many guests!

The most memorable Yavneh moment for me occurred during our Parent Coffee, when one of our visiting prospective parents commented, "I've seen a lot of teenagers over the years. You just know a Yavneh student."  And that, in a nutshell, is one of the most heartening things a Head of School can hear, as people remark about the intelligence, kindness and menschlekeit of our students and alumni.  Indeed, we hear it all the time: from parents, teachers, coaches, employers and college admissions officers.

It you know of an eighth grade student who you think would be a good fit for Yavneh, please let us know!
Wishing you a meaningful MLK Day and a Shabbat Shalom.  Go Bulldogs!

In almost every Parsha there are incredible lessons to be gleaned from the inspiring, yet practical words of the Torah. Although sometimes these lessons are only implicit, rather than explicit, they still can serve as practical lessons to be applied to our daily lives. I believe just an instance of such a lesson is subtly hinted to in the words used to describe the commandment of the Korban Pesach, the Passover offering.

The Torah tells us that when Moshe commanded the Jewish people about the Korban Pesach, he said to them "Draw for yourselves and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb... And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons forever." The wording at the beginning of the commandment seems slightly superfluous. Why does the Torah need to tell us "Draw for yourselves" and also, "Take for yourselves." The Torah could very simply and succinctly say take a lamb to be sacrificed, the Torah seems to be unnecessarily verbose. Rebbe, this Midrash seems to make no sense in the face of another Midrash. The Midrash tells us that during the three days of the plague of darkness, while the

New Student Recruitment

On January 12, Yavneh hosted its second annual Prospective Parent Coffee. Several parents from our partner schools, Levine and Akiba, as well as other private and public schools in the area, attended the event in Yavneh's library. Parents heard about the breadth of the curriculum as well as co-curricular activities at our school from our impressive faculty and staff. A group of remarkable Yavneh alumni (photo) spoke about their outstanding college preparation at Yavneh, highlighting their academic success as well as their many different activities at Yavneh which laid the foundation for even greater experiences in college.
