From the Head of School
Shabbat Shalom
Dear Yavneh Family,

I could not have been prouder of our Yavneh student-athletes who represented us so well last week in Baltimore, where both our boys and girls varsity basketball teams participated in a national Jewish high school invitational tournament and Shabbaton, with over 120 Jewish teens from New York, New Jersey, Toronto and Jerusalem.  Many of our players earned all-tournament honors, and our Dallas kids were "the best behaved student ambassadors" in the words of many fans and administrators.

Last week's Parsha concluded with Yosef languishing in jail waiting to be rescued from his sad predicament. He sought to capitalize on his favorable relationship with the butler who after spending time in jail with Yosef is reinstated to his former prominent position. However, it is not until two years later when Pharaoh experiences some troubling dreams that the butler remembers Yosef's unique ability to interpret dreams and suggests that the Pharaoh release Yosef from jail.

MINDBURST...The Arts Are Alive At Yavneh!

This fall, as the Yavneh arts faculty discussed plans for the year, they began brainstorming about ways to end the fall semester, as the traditional Fall Arts Night and Spring Literary Café were now to be combined into a single event in the spring semester. Music teacher Kim Corbet suggested the idea of a multi-media art installation, transforming the downstairs area of the school into a dynamic, interactive environment, showcasing the work of all the Yavneh arts students in a week-long exhibit.

A Contribution From The Heart

For the second year in a row, Mr. Morti and Mrs. Ora Tenenhaus presented Yavneh Seniors with the inspiring book, "A Letter in the Scroll," written by Lord Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. The book, which has served as a special source of wisdom and inspiration to so many Jews, was presented by the Tenenhauses to each Yavneh 12th grader with the hopes that it will guide and inspire them in their continuing spiritual and ethical journeys. For a complete copy of Mr. and Mrs. Tenenhaus' remarks,  click here.
