From the Head of School
Shabbat Shalom
This past Sunday marked, to the day, the ten-year anniversary of the original groundbreaking on our magnificent Schultz Rosenberg Campus.  Under clear skies and beautiful temperatures, we were able to celebrate our inspiring school legacy and the bright future that undoubtedly lies ahead.

The day's events included a meaningful torch-lighting ceremony honoring our founders  (in particular, the Schultz and Rosenberg families), our faculty, our board of directors, our PTO, our Federation partners, and our students and alumni - all of the people who have made and continue to make Yavneh the "School of Choice" for so many families in the greater Dallas Jewish community.
In this week's Torah portion we read a nail-biting saga. The Torah tells us that Yaakov, the younger brother, after having legally purchased the primogeniture rights from Esav, his older brother, dons his brothers' clothing and successfully masquerades as him to receive his father's blessing. As Yaakov appears before Yitzchak, the verse tells us that, "And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said: See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which G-D has blessed." The word B'gadav, his clothing is similar to another word, Bogdav, his guilty ones.

Yavneh is...a lifestyle..not a lifestyle of conformity but of a community.
CoffeeParent Coffee

In the spirit of building community at Yavneh, the Recruitment and Retention Committee sponsored the first of a series of Parent Coffees at the Yiddishe Kup on campus this week. Parents enjoyed seeing each other, meeting new faces, talking with members of the administration, and even had an opportunity to say hello to their students! Look for more information for the next Parent Coffee in the next Etone or contact Elina Minkoff at elinaglenn@yahoo.com or Terri Greenspan at  tetg@aol.com

8th Grade Levine Visit

Yavneh hosted the Levine 8th grade on campus this week. The prospective Yavneh students participated in a fun activity about Jewish identity with Rabbi Tannenbaum and Levine and Akiba alumni and experienced the "Projectile Prediction," an experiment in which they tried to guess the angle that would enable the marble launcher to launch the marble the farthest in the science lab. Thanks to one of our rising stars, 9th grade Physics teacher Brittany Pendleton, for planning the activity with such enthusiasm! After eating a Yavneh trademark quesadilla meal with delicious chocolate chip cookies from Ron's Yiddishe Kup, the Levine students heard from a diverse group of Yavneh students about life at Yavneh, including extracurriculars, sports, and academics. Finally, Yavneh students led the Levine 8th graders on a tour of the campus. A great time was had by all!

Israel Advocacy Update
Eli Minsky '19

The ongoing aggression in Israel has eased, but attacks have yet to come to a halt. Two big stories were highlighted with Israel's name, one for the better, and one for the worse.

Recently, the European Union insisted on having most products coming from Jewish settlements in Palestinian Territory labeled. This change in the exportation of goods to the European Union is said to be a "technical" decision, rather Israel perceives this action as discriminatory.

Israel Program Visits

Each year, Yavneh welcomes representatives from various Israel programs. These representatives present different options to our student body for spending a year in Israel following Yavneh. Below please find updates on Israel Program visits. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Naomi Schrager, our Israel Guidance Coordinator, at  naomischrager@gmail.com
