Dear Yavneh Family,
We at Yavneh don't shy away from difficult conversations, and our senior class pre-graduation talk this year was no exception. As many of you know, award-winning author Jon Krakauer recently published the New York Times bestseller Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town. It is a chilling read, and one that bears special relevance to teenagers and young adults, particularly those who find themselves on a college campus where alcohol, drugs and the absence of adult supervision are the norm.
Here at Yavneh, our newest crop of graduates-to-be were privileged to hear from Professor John Potter of SMU, a nationally-recognized expert on campus sexual assault. Dr. Potter spent time with our senior class, detailing the warning signs and proactive steps our teens can take to minimize their risks during their college years. Special thanks to Yavneh parent Ron Gross for arranging Dr. Potter's visit.
We wrapped up classes and exam review days today, and held our annual Awards Ceremony for students who have excelled in academic classes, extra-curricular activities and religious leadership. As department chairs recognized students who have worked so hard all year, faculty and students celebrated the growth and accomplishments of our students, who support and encourage one another all year long.
Please join us for Graduation on Sunday at 3 PM in the Schultz Family Gymnasium, as we come together as a community to honor the Class of 2015 and their families.
Shabbat Shalom and Am Yisrael Chai!
Dr. P
