From the Head of School ~
   Dr. David Portnoy

Dear Yavneh Family,

Although our senior class has only been finished classes for a few weeks, seeing them present their reflections from March of Living touched me deeply.  In short, the poise, depth and maturity so evident in their thoughtful, articulate words gave me and those in attendance great hope for our Jewish future.  In the words of Dallas survivor Max Glauben, "You now understand the lessons of the March, and will carry them forward the rest of your days."  Special thanks to Pam Fine, Rabbi Tannenbaum and Max for leading our students on a trip of a lifetime!

Yavneh Athletics have truly come a long way over the past several years, and this week's Athletic Banquet celebrated the hard work, grit and accomplishments of a tremendous group of student-athletes, coaches and families that support Bulldog Athletic.  Starting with an ebullient slideshow narrated by Athletic Director David Zimmerman and produced by Social Studies teacher and Film Club Advisor Mr. Ari Dembo, Yavneh sports were highlighted in vivid color and sound.  Following the show, coaches and players recognized one another and the many achievements of a truly outstanding year in Yavneh Athletics.

As we move toward the end of the Omer period and the holidays of Shavuot and Memorial Day, there is much to be thankful for on Merit Drive.  Without the support and devotion of parents, grandparents and donors like you, we simply could not accomplish all the incredible things we do.  So, please accept our warmest wishes for the holiday weekend, and our deepest gratitude for all you do for Yavneh.

Shabbat Shalom, Chag Shavuot Sameach and Am Yisrael Chai!

Village House Gallery Art Field Trip ~
Elena Okowita '16

The trip to the Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden was truly a unique experience. Unlike the vast, intimidating art museums to which we are accustomed, this small, quaint gallery had a much warmer, more welcoming feeling. The outdoor sculpture garden  is surrounded by beautiful trees and foliage-it is as close to feeling like a true forest as one can experience in Dallas. Spread throughout the trees are beautifully crafted sculptures and artwork.  Inside, wide variety of paintings are stunning and abstract.

Bulldog Soccer Sunday ~

There is lots of excitement building around the soccer program at Yavneh! On Sunday, May 17, Yavneh Bulldog Soccer Coaches, Cameron Markey and Casey Topletz, led a group of twenty enthusiastic Yavneh students (including current students as well as incoming freshmen) in a morning of soccer skills training and a mini-tournament. Coach Topletz invited all of the players to join his FC Dallas summer clinic over the summer, where they will have the opportunity to continue to build on their skills while simultaneously helping to train young soccer players. Thanks to our parent committee led by Carlos Nurko, for helping to coordinate this event! For more information about the soccer program, contact David Zimmerman at 214-295-3500 or dzimmerman@yavnehdallas.org.
