From the Head of School ~
Dr. David Portnoy
Dear Yavneh Family,
It isn't every day that Yavneh is visited by one of the most prominent congregational rabbis in the country, a man whom others call "the rabbi's rabbi." This past week, we were honored to host Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblatt of Riverdale Jewish Center in New York. He spoke with our teens about a wide range of social and religious issues, offering each of them time with him - in his memorable words, "My time is your time."
And it was a week in which Yavneh families cooked, ate and schmoozed over delectables at the community's 22nd annual Kosher Chili Cook Off. Special thanks to our parents, students and other volunteers - it was a delicious day!
Our Yavneh Literary Café featured student poets, artists, musicians and film-makers, culminating in the distribution of our-aptly named YAD Literary Magazine (which is both an acronym for our school name as well as the Hebrew word for hand or the ornamental pointer used for Torah reading). It was a terrific celebration of Yavneh artistic talent!
Finally, it was a week to celebrate our senior class and their final weeks of regular classes and activities, as we served a special breakfast for them in our library. Breakfast tacos and fresh fruit topped the menu (thanks to our parent volunteers) as we thanked our 12th graders for their leadership and positive spirit as they prepare for their March of the Living Trip to Poland and Israel right after Pesach break.
Our many thanks for another great week of learning, growth and Jewish pride.
Shabbat Shalom,
Dr. P

is designed to help participants gain knowledge of nonprofit management through the following core competencies: direct service, philanthropy, advocacy, community organizing and social entrepreneurship.
