Dear Yavneh Family,
As all loyal Bulldog basketball fans can tell you, our Boys Varsity, for the second year in a row, has made it to the second round of the state-wide TAPPS tournament, requiring lengthy and often complicated travel plans. Indeed, our decision to rejoin TAPPS after a long hiatus was partly informed by our desire to create and maintain in-conference and all-state rivalries and friendships with schools in our region and beyond.

As you might imagine, trying to juggle our game and travel schedule - steering clear of Shabbat and other Jewish holidays throughout the year - has posed some interesting challenges for our competitors. Yet, as a rule, our fellow TAPPS contenders have been gracious and welcoming of our religious and cultural differences, and have acted respectfully and praised our student-athletes for their solid play as well as their
menschlekeit (though they might not use that word ;o)
But nothing touched me so deeply as when several schools, who, having visited our beautiful Schultz Rosenberg campus (where we play both the American and Israeli national anthems before each Varsity home game), asked if they, too, could play "Hatikvah" before the games when Yavneh was visiting their campus as a guest competitor.
I am touched every time Yavneh is on the receiving end of this phenomenal gesture, and feel privileged to share it with you - some real warmth to fend off the recent cold weather.
Shabbat Shalom and Go Bulldogs!
Dr. P
