From the Head of School ~
   Dr. David Portnoy

Dear Yavneh Family,

While every week on Merit Drive is filled with activity and learning, certain weeks (as Orwell might have written) are more equal than others.

Scene 1: Yavneh Mathletes Take First Place at Texas A & M Competition

Last Friday, while many of our student leaders were away at BBYO, Yachad and other conventions and shabbatonim, fifty Yavneh stalwarts traveled to Texas A&M University-Commerce to compete and learn about cutting edge-Math ideas and programs  - with our Yavneh team returning with the #1 trophy!!

Scene 2: Helping Hands for the Homeless - Fifth Annual Dinner

Yavneh student leaders passed the $100,000 cumulative fundraising mark at their 5-year anniversary dinner benefiting the Austin Street Center in downtown Dallas. At a dinner of more than 100 guests, the Center's director said: "We work with many well-meaning people, and many teens as well. But we have never seen the level of maturity, the level of professionalism, that Yavneh Academy brings to our organization!" How's that for Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)?

Scene 3: Basketball-palooza (Preview to this Saturday Night following Shabbat)

This one is a special preview, as our Boys Varsity team takes the home-court advantage against visiting Central Texas Christian from Temple.  In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, the Bulldogs have had an exceptionally successful season, and are ready for their second-straight at-home TAPPS playoff game!

As we welcome the Jewish month of Adar - kicking it off with our annual Color War festivities - we wish each of you a happy and healthy week.

Shabbat Shalom, and Go Bulldogs!

Dr. P
