From the Head of School ~
   Dr. David Portnoy

Dear Yavneh Family,

A healthy school community relies on all its constituencies - students, teachers, parents, alumni and supporters - to maximize its positive impact each and every day.

This week's Etone highlights many of our stakeholders: students and teachers engaged in Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) through Sharsheret Pink Day for breast cancer awareness; PTO parents providing a delicious lunch in appreciation for their children's teachers; and alumni connecting far from Dallas to celebrate Shabbat.

As we settle in for a more regular school schedule after the holidays, Yavneh students and teachers are deeply engaged in their rigorous Judaic and General Studies dual program, together with a rich palate of co-curricular and social action activities.

We hope that many of you will join us for this week's special Shabbat program at Shaare Tefilla - the Shabbos Project (see attached schedule).

Shabbat Shalom and Go Bulldogs!

PSAT's Wednesday, October 29th

On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT.  The test starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. so it is advised that students arrive to their assigned rooms beginning at 8:45 a.m.  Assigned rooms will be posted Monday, October 27 on the windows outside the Yavneh office.  Students should bring two no. 2 pencils (not mechanical) and a calculator that they would use in the classroom.  Please do not bring cell phones into the testing rooms. There will be no access to a phone during the test or during the breaks. Following the test, lunch and afternoon classes will be at the regular time. The PSAT/NMSQT is the student's first official step on the road to college encouraging students to start planning for life after high school.  Please remind them to get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast to ensure a good head start.

Yavneh Observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Schultz Rosenberg Campus was awash with pink as Yavneh students and teachers dressed up for Sharsheret Pink Day, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and awareness.  The official message from the Sharsheret organization praised our student body for their "incredible spirit" and for "educating the next generation" of the Jewish community through our support of this important cause. Yashar Koach, Yavneh!
