From the Head of School ~ Dr. David Portnoy
Dear Yavneh Family,

We hope y'all have had a wonderful break and are ready for the second semester!
The single biggest piece of news from Merit Drive is the extraordinary ranking of our Boys Varsity Basketball Team in their first season back in the competitive TAPPS league. Described by some as a once-in-a-decade squad, the team's play in Memphis, Baltimore and Texas (they are 9-1 in Texas, and 17-4 overall) has catapulted them into the #2 Small Private School in the State, and the #9 Jewish High School team in North America. (Note: Having lost by just a single point in overtime to the #4 team in Baltimore, many are contesting that ranking ;o)
And I am even prouder to report that this team's accomplishments on the court are only exceeded by their menschlekeit off the court - as students, guests, friends and mentors to the younger players. The reports I have received from our coaches, opposing coaches, referees, parents and fans are truly exemplary, as this team "walks the walk" when they are not competing at the highest level of local and national play.
As you know, we are in the midst of recruiting our new ninth grade class for next year, and if you know of any prospective Yavneh students, including ones who would enter grade ten or eleven, would you please click here to let us know? Thank you in advance for recommending deserving students to us.
On behalf of my faculty colleagues, and all of us at Yavneh, we wish you a Shabbat Shalom and look forward to seeing you on Monday!
Dr. P.
