From the Head of School ~ Dr. David Portnoy
Dear Yavneh Family,
Rosh Hashanah is one of the most celebrated Jewish holidays, and it is important that our students think of it not simply as a "no school" day or two. Regardless of their synagogue affiliation, we want them to think of the holidays as an opportunity - and not just an obligation - to connect to their community and to G-d.
One way for them to engage during the holidays, as I told them following Mincha yesterday, is to help out in their shul or temple: with child care, leading prayers, etc. Since their non-day school friends are probably busy with school work, at Yavneh we are truly focused on the holiday. What a blessing it is for us all to be a part of this sacred learning community!
On behalf of the entire faculty and student body, I wish you a Shana Tova and Shabbat Shalom,
Dr. P.

Shana Tova v' Shabbat Shalom ~
Rabbi Meir Tannenbaum,
Associate Principal/Judaic Curriculum.
Shana Tova & Shabbat Shalom ~
Rabbi Meir Tannenbaum, Naomi Schrager,
& the Judaic Studies Faculty.
|
In preparation of Rosh Hashana our students prepared for the significant days of prayer by connecting to each other, to the holiday, and to both the year past, and the year to come.
"As we enter this period of judgement, we don't want anyone to owe anyone anything; not friends, family, or Hashem," said Naomi Schrager, Associate Principal/Judaic Curriculum. "The words we speak during the annulment of vows, we speak in the most halachic way possible, in front of a bais din - our own "judges," Rabbi Michael Friedman, Rabbi Michel Lomner, and Rabbi Meir Tannenbaum."
Students then broke into groups with Rabbi Friedman, Rabbi Lomner, Monica Ribald, Mrs. Schrager, and Rabbi Tannenbaum to study through discussion, meditation, and art. "As the hours of the year are soon ending, and a new year begins, these precious moments are a gift to take accounting," said Rabbi Friedman, "and to best realize what we did with the year gone by, and how we will live and act, and be in the year to come.

Rabbi Meir Tannenbaum, Associate Principal/Judaic Curriculum, led a beautiful Slichot service, welcoming many of our students, faculty, alumni, and extended Yavneh Family members.
A meaningful havdallah and prayer service was followed by sweets and sports! To all, blessings for a healthy New Year.
