The University Museum of Contemporary Art at the Fine Arts Center presents the legacy of the late civil rights leader, writer and sociologist W.E.B. Du Bois in a landmark exhibition, Du Bois in Our Time. UMCA commissioned all new works by ten internationally acclaimed artists whose work offers an aesthetic contribution to a modern rethinking of Du Bois. | |  On the first weekend in October, catch the region's two largest fall festivals taking place back-to-back in the nearby towns of Franklin and Hopedale! On October 5th, Oktoberfest in Hopedale offers its 10,000 attendees a biergarden, car show, model plane demonstrations, a stagecoach and railroad exhibit, in addition to musical entertainment, food and kids' activities. On October 6th, Franklin Downtown Partnership's Harvest Festival brings more than 6,000 people to sample mouthwatering food choices.  Nantucket Conservation Foundation's 11th Annual Cranberry Festival will be held Saturday October 12th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come out to the Festival grounds and watch the berries being harvested, learn about the history of cranberry farming on Nantucket, participate in the family activities or just kick back and enjoy the music and the spectacular autumn scenery of one of the most unique and beautiful places on our Island. | |  The Annual Arts by the Bogs Festival will take place at Flax Pond Farms in Carver on Sunday, October 6th. Artists, craftspeople and artisans will be displaying and selling their fine art, photography and handmade crafts from 10 m. to 4 p.m. Some will even be demonstrating their crafts throughout the day. The festival will also feature music, food, children's activities and much more!

The 14th Annual Manjiro Festival will be held Saturday, October 5th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic Fairhaven! This Japanese-American festival features arts & crafts, food, entertainment, Taiko drumming, tea ceremony, tours of the Manjiro Trail and more. The festival is sponsored by the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society and commemorates Manjiro Nakahama, the first Japanese person to live in America and the town's Sister City connection with Tosashimizu, Japan.

| |  From October 11-13, the 2nd Annual Civil War Experience & Living History Weekend will be taking place at Green Hill Park in Worcester! This two-day recreation of the 1860s American Civil War period will include presentations from historical impersonators, a full-scale fictional battle reenactment, a formal military ball, a "Historical Education Day" for local schools, and several other opportunities to immerse event-goers in the atmosphere of the American Civil War.
