Big smile after a long nap.Greetings!

Welcome to our first newsletter!  So much has happened since the idea of The Children's Garden started to take form in August. Last October we worked frantically to open as we had two children who needed a home immediately.  Here was are six months later and going strong!  We are taking over another floor to be used exclusively for babies rooms and have a couple exciting projects in motion.  Exciting times!

Focus on Jack
Jack is almost 8 months old but he is the size of an average new born 3.9 kg/8.6 lbs. I know little about his life before coming to The Children's Garden; he was abandoned at birth, had surgery on his lip and hernia and was until recently was "skin & bones". He still needs surgery on his palate and spina-bifida but first needs to fatten up.

Jack is a fighter; he wakes up giggling, a ferocious eater, endlessly curious, and always has a ready smile.  Fighting for Jack and his future, as my friend Lila says, "it's what it's all about."

A real miracle of a transformed life....
Poor Monica, she had been declared terminally ill and expected to only live for less than a year. They didn't want to send her back to the orphanage in rural China for her last few months but her bed was needed at the hospital.  Could we take her? YES!

Fully expecting to do my all to give her the best life I had no idea that a whirlwind of events and coincidences over Thanksgiving weekend would turn an orphan into a world traveler with a mom, dad, older brother and sister.  Monica (now Lucie) has so far received medical treatment in France and is now at Boston Children's Hospital.  A real miracle!

The FAB 5!
The Original Fab Five...
The others from original Fab Five are going strong!  Kaitlin and Solomon will soon be joining their forever families in Texas and Indiana respectively.  Raymond has been adopted by a Chinese family and is now in Henan.  Xavier is attending a special boarding school in Henan specifically for children with his condition.

A note from Naomi
A typical afternoon.
"You can't connect the dots going forward; you can only connect them looking backward.  So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the future."
- Steve Jobs

When we started this venture I had no idea where it would go.  I did know that there was a great need for a home in Shanghai that would serve the orphans of rural China who were pre/post surgery.  It's been a challenge.  There were a few unexpected road blocks and a few pleasant surprises.

At this time we are working on the home and expect to have more babies soon.  We are also hoping to start working with poor families getting medical for their children so that they don't have to be orphans. More on this later.

As our organization grows so do our needs.  Many thanks to those who have been supporting us!  If you would like to be part of what we are doing you can donate now through paypay or contact me directly.
