SPA team in collaboration with the New Faculty Institute (NFI) and other offices on campus are pleased to offer you 
to make your on-boarding experience as smooth as possible at UMassD, have an opportunity to meet in person, connect with the staff who support research related activities and get to know what types of services & tools are available to you on campus.
 
Upcoming Changes & Events

Do you have any effort/commitments to certify for the Spring or Summer periods on any of your active sponsored projects?

Just stop by any time from 9:00am - 3:00pm on Monday, October 5 at the Library, Computer Lab. Room 225, if your schedule allows and have your effort certified. 

One-on-one assistance will be provided by:
Virginia Maki, Senior Grant Billing & AR Analyst, University Controller's Office
Kathy Sawyer, Senior Applications Specialist, University Information Technology Services (UITS)
AND
UMassD SPA Grants Managers:
Rebecca Moniz & Paulette Deakin as well as
Elena Glatman, SPA Director.

so you can easily follow the steps and certify in the new version of ECRT/Effort Certification system.

On Tuesday, October 6 Effort Certification/ECRT hands-on session is going to be offered at off-campus location at SMAST from 9:00am till 3:00pm.

SPA SATELLITE OFFICES

at the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences are being launched this fall.  SPA pre & post-award staff will serve as Research Concierge at the Colleges to assist faculty with:
  • Proposal submissions
  • Budget building
  • Financial award administration and management
  • Effort reporting
  • Close-out of awards
  • Staying in compliance with University policies & sponsor regulations.

The revised PRF got rolled out earlier this year.  If you have any suggestions on how PRF can be made user friendlier please send your comments to Elena Glatman.

Grants & Contracts Working Group 
resumed its operation after the summer break to:
  • continue discussing & addressing any issues related to research and other sponsored projects administration
  • strengthen communication among administrative offices such as Payroll, SPA, HR, A&F, Purchasing, etc.
If you would like to join one of the Grants & Contracts Working Group meetings, provide your suggestions and topics for future discussions and potential solutions, or review the current agenda and meeting minutes please contact Elena Glatman.

is scheduled for October 23, 2015.

Current Research Accomplishments
Dr. Amit Tandon  led approximately 25 American and Indian scientists working in the Indian ocean to better understand global weather patterns.  The researchers were supported by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) & completed a month-long cruise studying summer monsoon conditions in the Bay of Bengal.
