Legislative Update

Intraoperative Monitoring Services
The Governor, on Monday, signed S.1164/A.1835, which exempts intraoperative monitoring services rendered during certain neurosurgical, neurological, and neuro-radiological surgical procedures from physician self-referral restrictions. This bill was initiated by an MSNJ member to improve quality of care, allowing physicians to assemble the best teams for complicated, sometimes lifesaving procedures. MSNJ and New Jersey Neurosurgical Society supported the bill and thank the Governor for his action.

None of New Jersey's hospitals were awarded five stars, though many received four. The New Jersey Hospital Association previously asked Congress and CMS to delay the release until the criteria was made more transparent, data available for verification, and process replicable. NJHA also expressed concern that the rates are not adjusted for sociodemographic factors. Read more.
