When a child who is battling a life-threatening medical condition finds out that their wish will be granted, it can be the glimmer of hope that turns their situation around. A wish gives the child something to look forward to during a difficult time, it motivates them to stay strong, and it brings them courage when they face a scary ordeal of medical treatments and constant uncertainty. Marianne - Our
40th Wish This Year
We've just granted our 40th wish of the year!
Marianne, 11, Microcephaly & Cerebral Palsy, wished to go on a Disney Cruise.
Costco generously offered to adopt Marianne's wish.
Marianne was treated to a surprise wish reveal hosted by Costco. Staff came out to celebrate with a beautiful cake, balloons, snacks, and gifts for the wish girl.
In mid-July, Marianne and her family set sail on their Disney Cruise adventure.
Marianne had a wonderful time swimming in the pool, sampling some delicious food, and enjoying the ocean scenery from the porthole lookout in her room. Thanks again to Costco for helping to make our 40th wish of the year a reality! |
Patricia - Our
First Wish Child
Did you know that Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario granted its first wish back in 1997?
It's hard to believe how time flies!
Our first wish child's name was Patricia. She was 9 years old at the time, and had been diagnosed with leukemia. Her wish was to meet Mickey Mouse.
Patricia and her family had a wonderful trip and told us they were treated like "kings and queens" the whole time.
We received an adorable postcard from Patricia while she was on her trip.
She drew a picture of Mickey Mouse and wrote "I am having fun at Disney World!"
Seventeen years have passed and we are still granting magical wishes to children like Patricia.
