It's time to conjure the Gift-Wrapping-Volunteer Magic that turns a wrapped present into a rescued Golden Retriever. The sign-up sheet should be in your e-mail in-box. Please take a few minutes to find the time and location that works best for you and, perhaps, a friend, too. Can you gift wrap, help with set up, become a group leader for a gift wrap location, or hold a dog? Please contact Robin at grrsnvolunteers@aol.com.
The dollars raised go to support the dogs who will become our foster pals and family companions. It is a great way to promote our Rescue organization, to raise money, and to get in the spirit of the season!

Pet Health: Obesity An introduction to an Article by Chad Bower, DVM
We love our dogs, and while some of our rescued friends are painfully underweight, some arrive with too many pounds. Follow this link to an article by our own, Dr. Chad Bower of Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. He'll share his knowledge about weight and the solutions to helping our Goldens take off those unhealthy pounds.
As the holiday season is a time for treating ourselves and our pets to a "little something special", we thought this article might fortify us all for that moment (and we know it will come!) when our dogs look up with soulful eyes that say,"I need something... anything... maybe a treat?" And we, armed with the power of alternatives, present our begging friends with...whatever we know is best for our dogs.

Grateful Throughout the Year, but sharing now...

Thank You.
from Catherine Dalinis
As I sit at my desk with my precious Dodger by my side, I search for the words to express my gratitude to the people who make the GRRSN so successful. I realize a simple "Thank You" feels best.
To all of the leaders and volunteers, to the veterinarian care partners and participating animal hospitals, to the groomers, boarding and training facilities, to the photographers, and to all of you who have supported the GRRSN, thank you. All of your efforts make it possible for the Goldens in our homes to go to sleep at night secure, happy, and cared for. You make a difference in their lives and in ours.

My Elsie
by Patricia Nelson
It was 2009, a year of loss... pets, jobs, health and loved ones! Each day was a challenge to get through! I spent lot of time surfing the web, trying to appear functional.
Divine intervention led me to the GRRSN website. Looking at different options and pictures, I went from one extreme to another-from miserable to falling head over heels in love with soulful sherry-colored eyes, a big goofy grin and a soft pink nose! Thirty seconds later the application to adopt was done and a week later, Elsie was in her forever home.
Elsie had been abandoned and almost starved to death before the GRRSN angels found her during a pound walk. She weighed 37 pounds when adopted; she is my Elsie.
Elsie, who despite everything she has gone though, greets each day by turning onto her back, stretching her legs towards the sky and making little growly noises in some sort of bizarre sun worship. Elsie, who delights in racing around the yard at top speed with Crackers (stuffed duck) in her mouth before coming to a screeching halt, dropping her toy at my feet and by coincidence, her dog food bowl! Elsie, who thinks doggie popsicles (ice cubes) are the best treat ever! Elsie, who greets everyone like they are her best friend and worthy of petting her. Elsie, who knows where her leash is and is not shy about telling you it is time to go for a walk. Elsie, who likes to finish her day by watching TV with her people. Elsie, who goes to sleep each night at the foot of the bed with a contented doggie sigh.
Elsie, who looks at life simply, loves unconditionally. Elsie gave me back laughter and purpose; I am thankful for Elsie every day!
