City of Bath Petanque Club

Lesley Hall

Greetings!

I've just returned from Aix-en-Provence with CoBPC members Diana, Di & Terry where we represented Bath at the International Twinning market. We met up with petanque friends from previous visits, and introduced the French to the delights of mince pies, puddings and chutneys, as well as artisan crafts.
We are near to reaching agreement with the Larkhall Sports Club on sharing a bit of their land for a new petanque terrain, and now have to get down to serious fundraising.  If you are still thinking about how you can contribute, please let us know whether you can donate or make a loan towards the project.  Anything we get in grants will need to be 'match-funded', so we need to know how much we can realistically raise - no money need change hands yet!  This project will be the start of a new era for the Club, and I hope you will feel able to support it financially.
Although there are fewer games going on during the winter, there are a couple of opportunities to get together:
  •  Clean up of Alexandra Park piste, Thursday 19th December 10.00am (if fine).  Please bring a rake, brush or shovel to clear the piste of leaves etc.
  • New Year melee in Queen Square (details below)

I hope to see you at one of these, and it only remains for me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Lesley Hall, Chair.

Larkhall Sports Club

Proposed Location of new Pistes

As many of you are probably aware, the committee have been working on a proposal to lease land from the Larkhall Sports Club to develop a couple of Terrains. Along with these terrains we will be bale to share the club facilities offered by the Larkhall Sports Club which includes the clubhouse (bar and catering faciltiies), parking, toilet facilities and floodlights. During this time we have also submitted an application to Sports England for a grant to help develop the terrains. As part of our application we have requested 50% of the expected costs with the balance being met by donations from our members and in kind funding where available.

The Club are also in the process of applying for Community Sports Association status which will allow us to claim an addition 25p for every donated by a member (providing they are a basic taxpayer)

We are still looking for some additional donations and any further pledges would be most welcome.  Anyone who would still be interested may use the following forms.

Connections and Twinning News.

The club holds corporate memberships of the twinning associations with Aix-en-Provence (France), Brunschweig (Germany), Alkmaar (Holland), and Kaposvar (Hungary). Over the past few years the club has actively supported these associations arranging trips to the cities and not only taking on the opposition in games of Petanque but also joining in with a variety of activities. This coming year it is hoped that we will undertake our initial trip to Kaposvar (see details of the city below).

For more details of what is happening with the twinning associations read Connections which covers all 4 associations. Also have a look at the Aix Twinning News.
