Happy New Year from City of Bath Petanque Club
Greetings!

It has been nearly two years since we relaunched the newsletter for the City of Bath Petanque Club and in May of this year we upgraded the software. Rather than issue a newsletter this month I thought that it would be a good time to look back over  both the good and not so good times in 2012.

However first of all, New Years day we have the opportunity to gather at Queen Square to launch the new year, bring some food, wine soft drinks and if you fancy your chances some Boules to challenge the Don in the first game of the season.

As we look back over the year there have been both ups and downs

  • We launched a new website
  • As part of the website we have an on line calendar
  • The Thursday league, despite the weather, has continued to grow and culminated in a grand finale at the Northey Arms.
  • A record number of club members participated in the Inter Regional Championships at Hayling Island
  • Club members participated in a tour of Jersey and Guernsey
  • In October 9 members visited Alkmaar, our second trip to our twin town
  • The club got to the quarter finals of the 2012 Euro Cup Finals and only narrowly missed out reaching the 2013 Euro Cup Finals going down 3-2.
  • 3 of our members qualified as national coaches
  • A team reached the Ship Masters Final for the first time  in the clubs history
  • For the first time a group of boulists from Aix visited the city.
  • The club dinner was attended by 32 members and thanks go to Chris McGinn who organised the event
  • Finally It was with great sadness that In November we had to announce the passing of Peter Bale, a devoted club member who continued to participate in all forms of the clubs activities throughout the whole season despite his illness and was still playing for the Brunel team up until a month before his death.

We also have a new committee in place and they are developing a number of new ideas for the 2013 season. This will require feedback form our members and friends to ensure we meet your needs so please, please complete any surveys that may come your way, it is your club and we need to know what you are not only interested in but in how you believe the club should move forward.

I would like to leave you with an amusing  scene of how seriously boule is taken in the South of France. Click on the  image below.

Have a good new year and we look forward to welcoming you on the Piste in 2013 as well as any new members.
