Author Anne Hillerman Book Talks and Signings
Join Anne Hillerman, the talented daughter of best-selling author Tony Hillerman, as she discusses her newest novel, the Leaphorn and Chee mystery "Rock with Wings." Hillerman will present two book talks in Sedona on Thursday, May 14:
  • 1:30 p.m. at VOCA Community Center (Oakcreek Country Club), 690 Bell Rock Blvd., followed by a reception for the author and book signing from 3 to 4 p.m. at Sedona Public Library in the Village, 7000 Highway 179, Suite D-100.
  • 7 p.m. at Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, followed by a book signing.
Book talks are free. Purchase price of signed book is $27.99.
Movies in May
The Flicker Shack film series will be showing free movies starting at 6 p.m. on Monday nights in the Si Birch Community Room. There will be no film on Memorial Day, May 25.
  • May 4: Latino Services presents El Bola, winner of best film at Spain's 2001 Goya Awards, about a twelve-year-old boy from a troubled household who is introduced to a kinder version of family life at a new friend's home.
  • May 11: Interstellar, a futuristic cosmic odyssey that follows a band of space explorers who surmount the limits of interstellar travel, using a recently discovered wormhole to pass between dimensions.
  • May 18: Unbroken, an inspiring tale of survival based on the real-life experiences of Louis Zamperini, an American pilot held by the Japanese during World War II.
Health Screening
A free health screening will be held on Wednesday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the community room. This non-fasting screening, which measures cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and blood glucose, is funded and provided by Northern Arizona Healthcare. No appointment is necessary.
Free Immigration Consultation Sessions
The Library, in partnership with immigration and family law attorney Daniel A. Rodriguez, will be offering free immigration consultation services on the following Tuesdays in May and June, from 1 to 4 p.m.:
  • May 5 and 19
  • June 2 and 16

Summer Reading Program Kickoff Event
The Summer Reading Program theme for 2015 is "Every Hero Has a Story." This year, we will kick off the program with the Superhero Training Academy! Come join us Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the community room for obstacles, strength training, super foods, and fun.
Hot Topics Discussion
Hot Topics Caf�, a partnership between the Philosophy in the Public Interest and Compassion Project programs at NAU, will hold an open public discussion on Monday, May 4, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Library. The topic for this program is "Changing the Climate Around Climate Change." The program is free, and all are welcome.

Hot Topics Caf� programs provide opportunities for community members to discuss contentious political issues in a civil way. The program is non-partisan and does not endorse positions with respect to any issue discussed.
iPad/iPhone Workshop
The Oak Creek Apples, in partnership with the Library, is offering the next session in a series of workshops focused on Apple's iPad and iPhone, on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Si Birch Community Room. This workshop will focus on messaging. Participants need to bring their own iPad/iPhone. Pre-registration for this free program is required by e-mailing [email protected].

  • Monday, May 4: Ann-Mary Lutzick of Arizona Humanities will present "Winslow's La Posada: The Life, Death, and Rebirth of a Harvey Grand Hotel" at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds Retirement Community, 405 Jacks Canyon Road. The program is free and open to the public.
  • Thursday, May 14: Meet author Anne Hillerman as she talks about her new book, "Rock with Wings," at 1:30 p.m. at VOCA, 690 Bell Rock Blvd., followed by a book signing at 3 p.m. at Sedona Public Library in the Village.
  • Casting Shadows,
    by Donna Klein
    Tuesday, May 19: "Infinite Possibilities," an exhibit of digital art by Donna Klein, opens at 1 p.m. at Sedona Public Library in the Village. A reception for the artist will be Wednesday, May 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at SPL-V.
  • Wednesday, May 27: Community book discussion at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds Retirement Community, 405 Jacks Canyon Road. Share what you are currently reading and get ideas for your next read.
Sedona Public Library in the Village is located at 7000 Highway 179, Suite D-100, in the courtyard of Tequa Plaza. Library hours in the Village are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
