Festival of Wreaths
The Friends of Sedona Public Library are proud to announce that the 2014 Festival of Wreaths will kick off on Sunday, November 9, with the preview party from 4 to 6:30 p.m. You can be the first to see and purchase this year's creations at the preview party. This fun and festive evening includes wine, appetizers, raffle prizes, silent auction items, and musical entertainment. Tickets will go on sale October 1 and will be available at the reference desk in the main library, at Sedona Public Library in the Village, and at Bashas'. Tickets are $15 each or $25 for two. All proceeds directly benefit the programs and operating costs of the Library.

  • Make and donate a wreath or table-top tree.
  • Make a tax-deductible cash donation.
  • Donate raffle or auction items, such as gift certificates and artistic creations.

New Circulation Manager
Greetings everyone, my name is Katherine Merlino and I am the new Circulation Manager at Sedona Public Library. I'm taking over for Scott Sanicki, who will be leaving the Library and working with GitHub, a platform to collaborate on software projects.

I came to Sedona in 2011, after working in circulation and collection management for 23 years at the Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington, Connecticut. My face may be a familiar one, as I have worked at the Library for the past three years. In my new position, I look forward to working with the staff, the volunteers, and the community to make Sedona Library the best it can be.

One of my duties will be to train and supervise the volunteers who work at the circulation desk. If you have been thinking that the Library might be a rewarding place to work, you are invited to get the process started by picking up a volunteer application at the circulation desk. Come join our dedicated team!
Exhibits Featured at the Library
Now on display at Sedona Public Library is a special group of colorful quilts. Created by the Red Rock Quilters, the quilts are for kids who attend Camp Soaring Eagle, a year-round camping program for children with serious illnesses. The Library is selling raffle tickets to raise operating funds for Sedona Library in the Village and Camp Soaring Eagle, and the winner will receive the quilt of his or her choice from the exhibit. Stop by the reference desk to purchase your ticket.

Be sure to visit the main library to view fiber arts of the Verde Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild, now through October 10. Another popular exhibit is photographs from members of the Sedona Camera Club, which will be up for the month of October.
Harry Potter Party
Looking for something to do on Columbus Day, October 13? (No school!) Come to the Library for a Harry Potter party from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the community room. Watch the first Harry Potter movie (rated PG), create magic tricks, get ready for Halloween, and play games! Bring a friend, meet a new one! Join in the fun!
Movies in October
On Monday nights in October, we'll be showing free movies at 6 p.m. in the Si Birch Community Room. Please note that there will be no movie on Monday, October 27, because of the fall book sale.
  • Oct. 6: Latino Services presents No, an Academy-Award nominated drama from Chile about the controversial media campaign against the re-election of dictator Augusto Pinochet.
  • Oct. 13: Belle, a period drama that traces the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, born in 1761 to a British admiral father and an African mother.
  • Oct. 20: The Conjuring, a suspenseful haunted-house movie that will get you in the mood for Halloween.
iPad/iPhone Workshop
The Oak Creek Apples, in partnership with the Library, is offering the third in a series of workshops focused on Apple's iPad and iPhone. The next session will be held on Saturday, October 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the community room. This workshop will continue to cover the basic features of these devices. Participants need to bring their own iPad/iPhone.

Class size is limited to 50 people, and preregistration for this free program is required. To register, please e-mail [email protected].
