Support the Library on Arizona Gives Day

 March 20 is Arizona Gives Day, a day for Arizonans to come together to make donations to nonprofit organizations. Arizona Gives is a one-day, online giving event allowing you to contribute to any Arizona nonprofit of your choice through a central web site. Support Sedona Public Library on March 20, between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., by clicking here to visit the Library's Arizona Gives web page. Sedona Public Library is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that depends on support from generous individuals like you. English and Spanish Computer Classes Start in March

 Feeling left out of the digital revolution? Learn basic computer skills at our upcoming beginning computer classes.
In this two-part workshop to be held on March 14 and 21, students will get practical, hands-on experience using a computer. Class topics include becoming familiar with the parts of a computer, navigating the desktop, working with windows, and saving and transferring files. To get the most out of the classes, students should have familiarity with using a mouse and keyboard. Class size is limited; reserve a spot by calling 928-282-7714 and asking for reference, or stop by the reference desk in person.
Additionally, beginning computer classes for Spanish speakers will take place in March and April. Please call 928-282-7714, ext. 41, for details.

The Northern Arizona Stitchers Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America will display their artwork at SPL-V beginning Tuesday, March 12. An artists' reception will be held at the Village library Wednesday, March 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- Monday, March 25: Arizona Humanities Council program at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Road. Greg McNamee will present "Riding with the Duke: John Wayne in Arizona." The program is free and open to the public. Following the presentation, pick up your loaner copy of "Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez," for the community book discussion in April.

Free Tax Help and Health Screenings Continue Through April
| The AARP's free Tax-Aide service is very popular again this year, and it will run through Tuesday, April 16. Volunteers are available in the Si Birch Community Room on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Tax-Aide service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about what to bring with you, click here.
Also, don't miss the free health screenings taking place on Saturday, March 9, and Saturday, April 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Provided by Northern Arizona Healthcare, the screening measures cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and blood glucose.

Hot Topics Presents Discussion "Taxes: A Cost-Benefit Analysis"
| Hot Topics Café, a partnership between the Philosophy in the Public Interest and Compassion Project programs at NAU, will hold an open public discussion about taxes at Sedona Public Library on Tuesday, March 5, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The program is free, and all are welcome. The facilitator for the discussion will be Dr. John Devlin of NAU's Franke College of Business.

Sign Up for Personalized E-Reader Help

 Beginning in March, you can make an appointment for individual instruction on how to download free library e-books and audiobooks to your e-reader or other device. Whether you've got a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop, an MP3 player, or an e-reader, our staff will help you download the appropriate software and get started enjoying library e-books and downloadable audiobooks. This new one-on-one digital download training program will take the place of our group classes.

Library Receives Grant to Buy DVDs

 Thanks to a grant from the Sedona Community Foundation, the Library has purchased 40 DVDs from the respected Criterion Collection series.
The Criterion Collection distributes films made by the most renowned directors of modern and classic cinema. This series is known for its superb image and sound quality and its DVD extras. Look for Criterion Collection films in the Popular DVD collection. Many of the titles are not yet available in any other Yavapai County library! This collection is made possible by generous donations to the Sedona Community Foundation.

Goodwill Foundation Opens Job Center in Sedona
|  Job seekers in our community have many resources to help them find employment. At Sedona Public Library, we offer two dedicated computers for job hunters, with free printing, scanning, and flash drives. Our reference staff and computer volunteers also regularly assist people who need help applying for jobs. Another great resource is the Yavapai Workforce Connection center, in Cottonwood, which provides a multitude of free services to the unemployed.
Recently, the Goodwill Foundation opened a job connection center at their Sedona location in Bashas' plaza. At Goodwill, job seekers can meet with an employment specialist who will develop a personalized employment plan and teach skills such as preparing resumes and answering interview questions. Goodwill also provides emergency assistance and items such as free clothing and household goods. The new center is open Monday through Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 928-282-9077 for more information.
