Collaborating with researchers at Rutgers University-Camden, David Tulloch, professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and associate director of the Grant F. Walton Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis, where he leads the Geohealth Lab research group, synthesized data about HIV/AIDS and interventions in the Philadelphia/Camden area into an informative and powerful map. Read More �

The data center for the pioneering Ocean Observation Initiative (OOI), which collects and shares data from more than 800 sophisticated instruments and a transmission network across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, is now operating at Rutgers. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the initiative is collecting, processing and sharing vast amounts of data on the oceans. The Rutgers team, which includes the Rutgers Discovery Informatics Institute and Rutgers University Center of Ocean Observing Leadership, was awarded an initial two-year, $11.8 million contract by the NSF-funded Ocean Observatories Initiative project management office to design, build and now operate the OOI cyberinfrastructure. Read More �

On May 16, the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences' Class of 2016 was awarded degrees and basked in the collective pride of faculty and staff of the Cook Campus at the Convocation held at the iconic Passion Puddle. On a sunny, but windy day, the students were joined by an enormous crowd of family and friends to celebrate this special annual occasion, made all the more special this year as Rutgers celebrates a historic 250th anniversary. Read More �

Peggy, a registered dietician, is the nutritionist for Rutgers Dining Services, and the director of behavioral nutrition with the Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health. She also holds a master's degree in nutritional science from Rutgers and a first-of-its-kind Ph.D. in interdisciplinary studies-nutritional science and psychology. Rutgers Dining Services, led by Joe Charette (CC'73) and bolstered by Peggy, is a leader among universities across the country in promoting healthy eating and providing the menus that support the effort. Read More �

Faculty, staff, and students attended the 23rd annual Celebration of Excellence for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station held at Neilson Dining Hall on April 21. This signature event acknowledges contributions in teaching, research and outreach by faculty and staff. The awards were presented by Rick Ludescher, dean of academic programs, and SEBS students Sarah Waxman and Nicole Tallman presented Alpha Zeta Honor Society awards at the event. Read More �

Alumnus Paul Orbe (CC'94) was recently awarded the 2016 Urban Science Educator Development Award from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) and Shell Oil Company. Orbe received his award at the Teacher Awards Gala during the NSTA's national conference on science education in Nashville, TN. The Shell Urban Science Educator Development Award was created specifically for K-12 classroom science teachers in urban settings and is designed to help strengthen quality science teaching and enhance teacher content knowledge. Read More �
