This is an exciting time to be at Rutgers! During the summer, a state legislative act transferred to Rutgers much of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, creating a multi-campus academic, health, and patient services division -- Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences -- that includes two medical schools, a dental school, and a School of Public Health.
We're well positioned here at the School and the Experiment Station to take advantage of the expanded mission and reach of the new Rutgers, which now boasts more than 65,000 students -- 45,000 undergraduate and 20,000 graduate students, drawn from all 50 U.S. states and more than 115 countries across the globe.

 This academic year, we welcomed approximately 720 new first-year students and 260 transfers who make up the more than 3,700 undergraduates currently enrolled at the School. During the Labor Day weekend, these incoming students participated in the brand-new First Year Induction Ceremony, led by Dean of Academic Programs Rick Ludescher. One continuing tradition I hope you'll all participate in tomorrow is our annual Community Day at Passion Puddle, from 4-7p.m. While this event serves as a community welcome to our students - both new and continuing, and an introduction to the various campus organizations in which they can get involved, this event is equally an opportunity for faculty and staff to gather and celebrate the start of a new school year together!
