Lake Newport to be Treated
|
Lake Newport will be treated to remove bladderwort on Monday, May 23. These free-floating plants are usually found in calm waters and can form dense mats. Herbicides will be used in the treatment of the lake. As a precaution, residents and their pets should stay out of the water until May 25. Reston National Golf Course paths are for golfers only and are not part of the Reston Association pathway system. For safety reasons, RA members and other pedestrians are asked to stay off the golf course paths.

NoVa Fine Arts Festival

Saturday, May 21: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, May 22: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Reston Town Center, 11900 Market St.
More than 200 artists from around the nation will display their paintings, photography, mixed-media, sculpture, jewelry and fine crafts. There will be innovative dance performances and free art-making activities for families. Proceeds benefit the Greater Reston Arts Center,

Wine Tasting at Nature House

Enjoy a special evening of wine tasting at Reston's beautiful Walker Nature Center. Sample red and white wines along with a variety of meats, cheeses and crackers inside the Nature House. Tour the gardens and accessible paths with a naturalist and look for spring wildflowers and birds. Bring a friend or meet a new one at this unique event. Co-sponsored by Tall Oaks Assisted Living. Summer Bird Class & Count

Bird Class Thursday, June 2 7-8:30 p.m. $5/person or free for count participants. Bird Count Saturday, June 4 6:45 a.m.-Noon Free. Class and count will meet at the Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. Adults. Learn the basics of bird identification, and how to look and listen for the common birds of Reston at the Bird Class. Then, join us for the half-day annual Summer Bird Count throughout Reston's natural areas. Meet local bird experts, learn tips on identification and have fun while helping us obtain important information to help our feathered friends. Reservations required by May 30. Explore Lake by Canoe/Kayak

Friday, June 3 6:30-8 p.m. Lake Anne Public Boat Docks, Washington Plaza in the Lake Anne Village Center. $7/person RA members, $9/person non-members Ages 7 and older. (Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) Reservations required May 30. Email naturecenter@reston.org or call 703-476-9689. Explore Lake Anne from a different perspective. Paddling is a leisurely and enjoyable way of getting up close to waterfowl, fish and turtles that seem far away from shore. Beginner paddlers welcome. Boats and equipment provided. Tennis Volunteers Sought

Reston Tennis will be hosting the sectional tournament for 8 & under Junior Team Tennis on Saturday, June 11 at North Shore Tennis Courts. About six volunteers are needed to help with scoring of matches and to help keep the children moving at a good pace throughout the day. No tennis experience is needed.
