DEVELOPMENT / FUTURE
On the Rise
New projects and construction continue around Reston. Keep up with all the latest news by visiting the Development & Future of Reston section of RA's website.
In its last meeting of 2015, the Reston Association Board of Directors approved a motion that will amend two elections/referenda-related resolutions intended to bolster the confidentiality of individuals' voting records.
While the association will continue to publish aggregated voter turnout reports, including but not limited to turnout percentage by voting district and property type, board directors decided it was in the best interest of members to not release information about who voted in any RA election or referendum.
Click here to read more about the amendments or click the image above to watch the entire Dec. 17 meeting, which included a presentation from the the Tetra Working Group and an update on the association's technology-related initiatives.
Pathway Closed for Repairs
In anticipation of winter weather, Reston Association is contracting with Lake Services to repair the clogged underground drain which has allowed water to seep across the pathway near the Lake Thoreau dam. The contractor will install a new interceptor trench which is designed to collect the groundwater and direct it under the nearby pathway.
It is estimated to take one to two weeks to complete the project. The pathway around Lake Audubon will be closed beginning Jan 4. Please contact Nicki Bellezza with any questions or concerns at 703-435-6560 or nicki@reston.org.
Golf Course Saga Continues
Legal representatives of Reston National Golf Course filed notice on Dec. 22 indicating they will bring the ongoing land-use battle against Reston Association and other individuals to the Virginia Supreme Court.
RN Golf Management is seeking to overturn a Fairfax County Circuit Court decision from last fall that requires any redevelopment of the course be preceded by the filing of specific plans with the county. The court's decision supported the county's zoning administrator's earlier ruling which sided with RA. Community and grassroots groups, such as Rescue Reston, are also involved in the fight to preserve the course and the open space. Click here to read more.
