lakeVideo: Dredging Complete

The Lake Anne dredging project is finished.  Reston Association's contractor, Lake Services, removed 544 truckloads, approximately 6,000 cubic yards of material from the lake over the last several weeks. (Click the image above to watch a Reston Today video about dredging.+

RA dredges coves to clear accumulated sediment and leaf debris to improve boat and shoreline access as well as provide additional water storage areas and deeper areas for fish. Removing sediment at the coves where the major drainage-ways enter the lake helps to prevent the lake from filling in with accumulated sediments.

Woodpeckers love to search the trees for food, even during winter. Learn about Reston's official bird, the Pileated Woodpecker, and all of its woodpecker friends. Take a short hike to look for their homes and make a fun bird craft.
nvaNVTC WMATA Regional Forum

The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission will sponsor a regional forum in Reston that will allow the public to share concerns about the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and help identify solutions to get Metro back on track. Saturday, Dec. 19
4:30-6 p.m. Free.
Starting point: Lake Anne Plaza parking lot. Children must be accompanied by an adult who will ride with them.
 
You are invited to join Reston Association for the fourth annual Reston Tour de Lights -- an evening bike ride to view some of Reston's best holiday lights. Participants will travel approximately 10 miles. Riders are required to have a front light and red, rear light. A helmet is strongly recommended and required if under 15 years old. The ride will be canceled if rain/snow or temperature below 35 degrees and wind over 12 mph. Registration is required as space is limited. To register by email, click here.

Enjoy a creative puppet show about how the animals at the nature center are spending their winter break. Create an animal puppet of your own to take home.

 RA's volunteer program consists of members in our community working in a variety of capacities. Volunteers are RA's strongest line of communication with the community. Each year a diverse group of RA members donates thousands of hours to the association. Through their dedication, we are able to provide a wide range of high-quality programs, services and events that make Reston a great place to Live, Work, Play and Get Involved.  

multimodalMultimodal Committee Forming
The Multimodal Transportation Advisory Committee was established by the Board of Directors in Sept. 2015 in support of its strategic focus on leading sustainable change in Reston.

Reston Association is now seeking volunteers to participate as members of this committee. To apply for appointment, download a Committee Volunteer Application Form and submit to Sabrina Tadele no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 using the instructions on the form.
