Thanksgiving Food Drive
|
 Reston Association is participating in the Thanksgiving Food Drive, which runs Nov. 1-23. Drop-off locations include RA headquarters (12001 Sunrise Valley Drive) as well as the Central Services Facility and Nature House. Reston Community Center at Lake Anne and Hunters Woods, and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce are among the other drop-off locations. The drive benefits families in need and Cornerstones. Rascal Raccoons

Wednesday, Nov. 11 10-11 a.m. or 1:30-2:30 p.m. Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. $7/child RA members, $9/child mon-members Ages 3-5 (Children must be accompanied by an adult.) Reservations required by Nov. 8. Email naturecenter@reston.org or call 703-476-9689. Make a raccoon mask and tail craft, then dress up like a raccoon to go in search of what a raccoon needs. Explore the forest to look for food, water and shelter that is just right for this furry, forest creature.

During this hands-on, interactive workshop attendees, Reston Association Covenants staff and contractors will work together to locate and compare products, view samples and prepare Design Review Board applications. Make a beautiful centerpiece with native materials and some simple napkin rings for your Thanksgiving table ($1 per additional ring). Enjoy mulled cider and seasonal treats as we work. Call for CandidatesCovenants Committee Volunteers

Reston Association seeks a dedicated volunteer to serve as an At-Large member on the Covenants Committee. The Covenants Committee, appointed by the Reston Association Board of Directors, is responsible for administering the Use and Maintenance Covenants set forth in the Reston Deed of Dedication. The minimum time commitment is a 1 to 3-hour meeting once per month plus property inspections prior to meetings dates. If you are interested in applying, please complete a Committee Volunteer Application Form and submit it to stadele@reston.org no later than Friday, Nov. 27, 2015.

Volunteer for Stream Monitoring

Saturday, Nov. 14 Noon-3 p.m. Reston Association welcomes new volunteers to assist with stream monitoring at several locations throughout Reston. Get involved with a small team during all seasons to collect data and identify insects with the goal of assessing the health of Reston's streams. Help Remove English Ivy
|
Saturday, Nov. 21 10 a.m.-noon Volunteers will meet at the Hunters Woods Pool parking lot and walk to the natural area to remove English ivy that is choking native trees and ground covers. Volunteers will dig roots and pull the vines until the English ivy is removed. We will also be planting native trees, shrubs and ground covers to help restore the site.
