2015 World Games Begin
Reston Welcomes Police & Fire Athletes
Reston Association will be lending a hand at the 2015 World Police & Fire Games that will be held throughout Fairfax County from June 26 to July 5. The competition among rescue workers from around the world begins this evening with opening ceremonies at RFK Stadium in Washington before the focus of the games returns to Reston and Fairfax County for the next two weeks.
RA's Aquatics staffers will assist in the open-water swim and triathlon events. Reston's Lake Audubon will be the competition site for swimmers on June 28 and July 3. Central Service Facility crews from RA will remove brush along association pathways for the half marathon on July 5.
Lake Audubon pool will be closed June 28 and July 3 in support of the events.
RA members are encouraged to support this community-wide event that honors public safety officials from around the world. Up-to-date information specific to Reston, such as road closures and other breaking news, will be made available on RA's Facebook and Twitter pages.
Reston Town Center will serve as the site of the Athletes Village. The location will be used for registration, games information, competitions and nightly entertainment. Activities will take place in the pavilion, northeast lot and Presidents Park. Click here

Tennis Courts Being Resurfaced
|
Lake Newport's tennis courts are closed through late July in order to be resurfaced. Lessons and team matches will be moved to alternative locations yet to be determined. RA's tennis staff will contact players who were scheduled to play at Lake Newport with more information as it becomes available.

If you didn't get your Reston gear at the Taste of Reston last weekend, stop by Member Services and peruse all the new merchandise. Bruno's Barnyard Bash

Tuesday, June 30 (rain date July 2nd) 10 a.m.-Noon North Hills Pavilion, 1325 North Village Road. Ages: 2-5 years. $8 per child, $4 per adult/RA members. $12 per child, $6 per adult/ non-members. Bring the kids to enjoy crafts, a petting zoo, games, delicious food and plenty of photo opportunities. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required. Class and count will meet at the Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. Adults. Learn the basic identification and life cycles of our local butterflies at the Butterfly Class. Then, join staff and volunteers for the annual Butterfly Count through Reston's natural areas. Meet fellow butterfly lovers, learn tips on identification and have fun while helping to collect important information on our fluttering friends. Reservations required by July 6. Discover what makes them glow and why they want to be seen in the darkness. Find out what they eat, how they grow and where they live. Take a short hike in search of flashing fireflies and make a glowing craft.

Beat the Bush Honeysuckle

Oldfield Drive Natural Area.
Habitat Heroes volunteers will battle bush honeysuckle and garlic mustard surrounding the Oldfield tot-lot. We need help cutting back the large invasive bush honeysuckle that have taken over the woods and hidden its natural beauty. Meet at the Oldfield tot-lot, and park along Oldfield Drive. The entrance steps are adjacent to 10805 Oldfield Drive. Look for the RA truck.
