Voting in the referendum regarding Reston Association's bid to buy the Tetra property began on Monday, April 13 and runs through May 8. Click here to cast your ballot.

millsMills Supports Property Purchase
The former president of the Reston Citizens' Association and the current chair of the Reston Association's Community Engagement Advisory Committee is supporting RA's bid to purchase what is known as the Tetra property (former Vistors' Center) near Lake Newport.

Mills said the key to his support lies in protecting against unwanted development on the 3.47-acre parcel. Click here to read his views on why Reston members should vote yes in the current referendum that will decide whether RA should buy the land and accompanying building.

pooldrainPools to be Drained and Cleaned
Reston Association will begin draining and cleaning its 15 pools on Monday, April 27. RA follows Fairfax County environmental code during this annual process. Any members with questions may contact Chris Schumaker at 703-435-6505 or email aqmaint@reston.org.

Reston Association summer tennis programs are now on sale. Click here to see what RA has to offer to players of all ages and skill levels.


In other tennis news, the North Hills tennis courts are now open for the season. The Glade courts should be open by Monday, April 27.
boatBoat Raffle

Reston Association is currently holding a raffle for several abandoned boats. The raffle is open to all Reston residents. The boats included are:

  • Three canoes
  • Two kayaks
  • One Pelican bass boat (small hole in hull that will need to be repaired by winner)

All boats are in "as-is" condition. Names will be randomly drawn during the week of May 4. All winning participants will be responsible for claiming the boats. No sales will be made.

The Jefferson Apartment Group, a McLean-based developer of mixed-use projects, will hold the second of two community meetings for Reston residents and neighbors of the Tall Oaks Center. The group will provide a brief overview of the center's history along with a proposed conceptual plan for redevelopment. The company will provide comment/response cards for attendees. The development group purchased the Tall Oaks Center last December. Click here to read more.

The signing of the Declaration of Independence, a groundbreaking event in American history, blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. 1776-The Musical puts a human face on the pages of history. 1776 is a funny, insightful, and compelling drama with a wonderful musical score. The festival will feature hands-on activities and entertainment, including acoustic music, live animals, craft making for kids, displays and information from environmental groups as well as fishing and canoe/kayak rentals on Lake Audubon. Many naturally occurring plants can make a nutritious and tasty addition to your diet. Sample some "wild" dishes and take home recipes to try on your own. After an indoor presentation that includes the ethics of collecting and how good foraging starts at home, hike the trails in search of edible plants, and harvest some to take home. Sunrise Valley Wetlands is an aquatic jewel on the border of Reston and Herndon. Twilight is a time of transition as diurnal animals shelter for the evening, while nocturnal animals begin their nighttime activities. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the wetlands as we try to catch glimpses of nature's "shift-change." Co-sponsored by Reston Historic Trust.

On the Plaza at the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station.

Comstock Partners and Reston Association invite you to join more than 450 local commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work. Register and meet us on the Plaza at the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station to receive a free T-shirt, enjoy light refreshments and be entered into a raffle for a free bicycle. This location is above Fairfax County's first secure bike parking facility, just blocks from the W&OD Trail.

Old Trail Drive

Help restore the Old Trail Drive natural area and remove the garlic mustard that has invaded the Snakeden Stream watershed. Spring is the best time of the year to identify garlic mustard and pull it out of the ground before it goes to seed. Please meet at the Glade Pool parking lot. There is poison ivy at this site.
