METRORAIL SILVER LINE

Reston Station The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is constructing a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system, which will be operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport. The extension will serve the Reston-Herndon area, the state's second largest employment concentration. It will provide a one-seat ride from Dulles International Airport to downtown Washington. Deadline for Candidates Nears
| Anyone wishing to run for a seat on the Reston Association Board of Directors must submit the required forms by Jan. 31. The election is open to property owners and renters within Reston Association.
The following seats will be open:
- Hunters Woods/Dogwood District Director for a three-year term
- At-Large Director for a one-year term
- At-Large Director for a three-year term
- Apartment Owners Representative for a three-year term

Living on Lake Anne is all it is advertised to be. It is beautiful, serene and a reminder of what has made Reston special for 50 years. And, as I sit on my deck and admire the snow covered banks, I am thankful that sense of peace and tranquility lasts throughout the seasons. Of course, as close as Lake Anne is to my version of Utopia, I do understand it comes with a few challenges. And yes, RELAC is one of those challenges.

"My Community" on Facebook
| The "My Community" video contest entries can be accessed for viewing from the Reston Association Facebook page. Click here to watch (and "like") the videos.
The contest is being held to commemorate Reston's 50th birthday in 2014. The videos show why residents love to Live, Work, Play or Get Involved in Reston.
The contest also complements The Reston Story, a documentary produced by Storycatcher Productions with support from the Reston community.

Environmental Film: Chasing Ice
| Friday, Jan. 17 7 p.m. Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. Free. Donations gladly accepted. Winner of the 2012 Sundance Award for Excellence in Cinematography, Chasing Ice is the story of James Balog's mission to change the tide of history by gathering evidence of climate change. Using time-lapse cameras, his videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate. MLK, Jr. Celebration

Creatures of the Chesapeake Bay
| Sunday, Jan. 26 1:30-2:30 p.m. or 3-4 p.m. Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. $8/person RA members, $12/person non-members. All ages (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.) Reservations required by Jan. 22. E-mail naturecenter@reston.org or call 703-476-9689. Join a marine biologist from Under the Sea to meet and touch live creatures found in the Chesapeake Bay such as a horseshoe crab, a flounder and an American eel. Learn about bay ecology and how the way we treat water at home affects the water quality and wildlife in the bay. Under the Sea specializes in lively, entertaining programs and has presented at the Smithsonian Discovery Theater and the National Theater.

- Make sure you are registered on our website.
- Check that your profile information includes your current contact information.
- Verify that your camper's information is correct.
A deposit is required at the time of registration to hold your spot. Transportation or extended care options must be paid in full.
