Reston Station The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is constructing a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system, which will be operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport. The extension will serve the Reston-Herndon area, the state's second largest employment concentration. It will provide a one-seat ride from Dulles International Airport to downtown Washington. Former RA President Dies
| Dr. Thomas Wilkins, a long-time Reston resident and community leader, died last Saturday. He was 83. Wilkins came to Reston in 1969 and was Reston Association's first black president and a "Best of Reston" winner in 1997. Read more on Patch.com.

Habitat Heroes Project
(Formerly Weed Warriors)

Our native trees, ferns and wildflowers are under attack by invasive exotic plants like English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle and Bamboo. That is why we need heroes like you to join us in rescuing Reston's beautiful parkland from these aggressive plants. These fast growing, invasive plants escape from people's yards and seriously threaten local ecosystems, taking away vital food and habitat from already stressed wildlife populations. Please spend a couple hours in our parkland protecting our forests every fourth Saturday of each month as we help restore Reston's forests to their natural state.
Please wear long sleeves and long pants to protect against poison ivy, thorny plants and biting insects. RA will provide tools, gloves, snacks and water. Saturday, July 27 10 a.m.-noon. Join Habitat Heroes this month and yank out invasive shrubs like Burning Bush and Bush Honeysuckle from the natural area. These shrubs are a threat to biodiversity and are linked to the decrease in song bird populations. The natural area surrounding the Deer Forest Tot Lot needs your help. Please park along Deer Forest Road. Look for the RA truck. Help Needed for Kids' Triathlon
| On Aug. 11 at 8 a.m., the YMCA Fairfax County Reston and Reston Association will be holding the third annual Reston Kids' Triathlon. The event is intended to be a fun opportunity for youngsters to stay active through the summer and learn about the fast-growing sport of triathlon.
 In keeping with the missions of the sponsoring organizations, a number of the participants will be from families who might not be able to afford the entry fee and equipment for the event. Through individual and corporate sponsors, their costs will be covered. All net proceeds from this event will be used for the Y and RA youth scholarship programs.
Volunteers are needed for many different areas and if you would like to support local kids and volunteer for this event, please sign up at: www.restonkidstri.org/volunteer.html.
Volunteers receive a T-shirt and breakfast.
