The deadline for filing as a candidate for the Reston Association Board of Directors is Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.
There are three seats open this year. They include Lake Anne/Tall Oaks and North Point districts, as well as an At-Large director's position.
The Board of Directors is responsible to the membership for seeing that the overall organizational goals of Reston Association are accomplished. In general, a director's job is to set policy in all matters - finance and budget, personnel and compensation policies, and planning and program strategies.
There will be a candidates' orientation meeting on Feb. 7 at RA headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive. Online voting begins on March 4.

Reston Association will be hosting a Garlic Mustard Challenge during the spring of 2013. RA is seeking volunteers to remove as much invasive Garlic Mustard from Reston as possible in order to preserve ecosystem health and habitat. The challenge will culminate on Invasive Plant Removal Day and with the Spring Festival celebration at the Nature House on May 4.
Click here for more information about how to get involved.
Garlic Mustard is an invasive exotic species that produces allelopathic chemicals that alter the soil chemistry and prevent native plants and trees from growing. Each plant may produce thousands of tiny seeds. The plant is easy to spot and remove at this time of the year.
