Reston Station The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is constructing a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system, which will be operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport. The extension will serve the Reston-Herndon area, the state's second largest employment concentration. It will provide a one-seat ride from Dulles International Airport to downtown Washington. RA Tennis Wins Again Racquet Sports Industry magazine named Reston Association as "Parks & Rec Agency of the Year." This is the second major award Reston tennis has received this year. RA was recently named "USTA Mid-Atlantic Section Organization of the Year."
"My job is to grow tennis, providing it as an amenity for the community and sharing our passion," said RA Tennis Manager, Mary Conaway. Read the full RSI article online (page 36).
Reston has 52 tennis courts. About half of them are lighted and six are youth courts. Approximately 2,500 adults and children participate in RA tennis programs. |

Recycling Christmas Trees Christmas trees less than 8 feet tall can be recycled at the curb in Fairfax County during the first two weeks in January at no cost. Please remove tree stands, ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree toppers. For larger trees, contact your trash collector for recycling details. Live and cut trees only.

Toll Rates Going Up Jan. 1 The toll rate on the Dulles Toll Road will increase by 25 cents at the main plaza to $1.75 starting Jan. 1. Toll rates on the on/off ramps will increase by 25 cents to $1.00, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Click here to read more. |

Museum Seeks Transcribers Storycatcher Productions, along with the Reston Museum, is seeking volunteers to transcribe video interviews for a documentary film on the 50 years of history of Reston. Transcribers will receive a "thank you" credit in the film. You can learn about the history of this unique planned community as you transcribe the interviews from your home. MLK Jr. Day of Service Saturday, Jan. 19 9 a.m.-Noon Southgate Community Center, 12125 Pinecrest Road. All ages are welcome. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
