Reston Station The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is constructing a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system, which will be operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport. The extension will serve the Reston-Herndon area, the state's second largest employment concentration. It will provide a one-seat ride from Dulles International Airport to downtown Washington.  Three Board Seats Open in 2013
|
Three seats will be open on the Reston Association Board of Directors in 2013. The openings include Lake Anne/Tall Oaks District, North Point District and At-Large Director.
RA will hold an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive for anyone interested in running for the board. For Lake Anne/Tall Oaks and North Point seats, you must be a resident of the respective district. Call 703-435-6512 or e-mail ElectionsCommittee@reston.org for more information.
Important Election Dates
- Dec. 12, 2012 Election information session.
- Feb. 1, 2013 Deadline for filing candidacy.
- Feb. 7, 2013 Orientation session for candidates.
Note: Residents will have the option of mailing their ballots or voting for candidates online. Voting opens March 4. Check RA News and www.reston.org for updates on the election.

Chamber Luncheon Today Friday, Nov. 16 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The Westin Washington Dulles Airport 2520 Wasser Terrace, Herndon, Va.
The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce will host an informational luncheon titled "Health Care Reform: What is Next and How It Will Impact Your Business." The moderator will be Alison Starling, the anchor for WJLA. There will be a panel discussion involving health care and business professionals. Advanced Homeowner Seminar
Board Officer Roles and Responsibilities
Saturday, Nov. 17 8:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Reston Association Conference Center. 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive. Fee: $25.00 (Open to all cluster, condo and single-family board members) This CAI educational seminar will include:
- Tips on how to run efficient meetings and how to use Roberts Rules of Order effectively.
- Practical advice on how you can fulfill your role as board members and officers.
- Learn from those with real-world experience how to work effectively with homeowners, committees and other board members.
- Learn how to balance volunteer service with other life responsibilities in a healthy way - not only how to survive, but to thrive.
- How to build community spirit through effective leadership.

November Bird Walk Sunday, Nov. 18 7:30-10:30 a.m. Bright Pond Lane, park at the end of the cul-de-sac. Beginning and expert birders are invited to search for birds in some of Reston's most beautiful natural areas. Must be at least 16 years old. Leader: Kevin Munroe. There is no bird walk in December or January. We encourage you to participate in the Winter Bird Count on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 7 a.m. at the Walker Nature Center. Public Art Film, Speaker Series Spiral Jetty and Inside Australia Tuesday, Nov. 20. 7:30 p.m. Free. CenterStage, Reston Community Center, Hunters Woods, 2310 Colts Neck Road. The two films document works by artists Robert Smithson and Antony Gormley, created respectively in 1970 and in 2002-2003. The artists were inspired by a similar type of location, salt lakes, to express very different artistic visions. Holly Koons McCullough, Curator of Exhibitions, Greater Reston Arts Center, will introduce the films. A Q&A session will follow the screening. |

Pre-Feast Bike Ride Thursday, Nov. 22 9:30 a.m. Meet at Fountain Square, Reston Town Center. The Pedestrian & Bicycling Advisory Committee is organizing a Thanksgiving morning bike ride. The leisurely six-mile ride will tour North Reston neighborhoods using lower-speed roads and paths. The ride will finish at about 11 a.m.. All are welcome.
